We have been getting some calls and emails
on this subject with the new announcement
by DCL about the 2 different 14 day repositioning
cruises.

Ok, we have spoke directly to the cruise line over
and over and over again and DCL is still sticking
to - If you are a U.S. citizen, all you will need
is a original birth certificate & a picture drivers
license. Or a valid U.S. passport & a picture
drivers license.

Our personal opinion is if possible try to have
a passport, we do not feel 100% sure that DCL
is sure that you would not need one """YET"""
we have requested it on their letterhead for
these 2 sailings that DCL does not require a
U.S. Passport. So, based on this, we suggest
looking into getting a passport. It is up to you.

Also, feel free to contact DCL direct and you
can make the best decision for yourselves, everyone
has different situations: 800-511-1333.

Most City Halls or Post Offices have U.S. Passport
Applications or you can contact:

The National Passport Information Center

Mon. - Fri. from 8AM - 8PM EST
npic@state.gov

JMO, but worth checking out. As we stress above,
DCL at this time is stating that you only will need
a original birth certificate & a picture drivers license.
But, make a call and check it out and then you
decide until we have a more firm answer from DCL.
Worth checking

Have a great weekend!

This information may clear up requirements for Curacao -- In my opinion, carry a passport -- its just easier and it will ensure that ll members of your party have proper docs no matter what happens. Thought this would be helpful if anyone had questions they could contact the above!!

BTW -- no matter what docs you take -- make a copy and pack the copy in your carry on so that you will have them in case the originals get stolen.

I would advise everyone to get a passport. With all the stringent security requirements at the airports and the ports of call, it just makes sense. And with all the uncertainty in the world, the rules change all the time, and the cruise line doesn't always give you valid information...

Example: I recently took a Western Caribbean cruise on Holland America Line. When we checked in, the cruise line rep gave us our key card and told us that this was all we would need to get back on the ship...WRONG!! When we went back to the ship in Key West (United States of America) the US customs agent at the pier wouldn't let me go to the ship because I didn't have my ID with me. After a 5 minute interrogation, he let me go, but scolded me for leaving the ship without the passport.

Also, if you happen to lose track of the time and don't get back to the ship before it leaves a port, you may not be allowed into the next port to catch the ship if you don't have a valid passport.

For peace of mind, the best thing to do is to get a passport.

Thank you for the awesome update information.

It is true about getting off the ships in any of
the ports. You must have your ship key AND
your proof of citizenship & drivers license.

On the DCL ship (3 and 4 day) we carry
our key and our drivers license whenever
we got on and off the ship at the different
ports.

Now you will be travelling to some VERY
different ports of call and we also recommend
a passport with a picture drivers license
(2 forms of I.D. are always best, the more
the better) with your ship key is safest.

We have put out calls to DCL and waiting for
an OFFICIAL statement on their letterhead
for the requirements for these 2 sailings.

Because this is new for DCL it is just taking
a little time, but the sailing is not until next
year so everyone IF they do need passports
will have plenty of time to get one.

BUT, DCL should of had a OFFICIAL answer to
this question BEFORE the reservations started
on Wednesday, we have spoke to reservationist,
who have spoke to supervisors who have spoke
to customer service and we keep to date getting
different answers.

SOOOOOOO, we will try to post as soon as we
have something documented or if anyone else
gets info post away :)

Thanks again for the help and posting

Dana :)
