Didn't think this was far off, but the day after? I'm so happy to see the yankees out, but it wasn't Torre's fault. Their pitching sucks and all the money ($300 mil) can't buy clubhouse unity, something they lack. And I don't think bringing Lou Pinnella in is going to help.

Look for Steinbrenner to go nuts with firings in the offseason.

I can't wait to go to work tomorrow and read all the NY papers and hear all the fans in the elevators complaining, since all I've heard this season is "World series, here we come."

No big shocker, I guess. I'm with you in that I think doing it the day after smacks of the blame game. The team , the players that is, need to come together.

Frankly, I'm not concerned - I'm rooting for the Mets!!!!! :cheer2:

Not a Yankees fan at all, but I've always thought Joe Torre is a class act, a good person and what Georgie needs to take a good look at is a few of his stellar purchases.......A-Wad being under the microscope first and foremost...earn your money fella. The true team player on that team is Derek Jeter...

It pains me to say this but ITA!

Joe isn't the problem...George is, and always was.

Yep, Georgie is a big problem, but Joe is gonna take the fall....and I'm not so sure Pinella is the man to get it done.........but I don't care really....always and forever love my Sox...yep, get aggravated as heck with them, but still love em and will be back for more next season :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Virgo, see we are true fans of baseball, we can give credit where credit is due :sunny:

When the Yankees found themselves in possession of two all-star shortstops, one of the two (incidentally, the better defensive player) volunteered to move if necessary and do whatever was needed for the team. The other player insisted he wouldn't switch positions.

Which player was which. Jeter may be a lot of things - but team player????

I totally agree! I respect Torre and Jetere tremendously.

I disagree! I think Jeter is by far the better defensive player. Why should he switch postions when it seems to me that they aquired A-Rod with the intentions on him playing 3rd base? Jeter by far is the better person all the way around!

The only reason George could have for firing Joe is that he isn't about to fire himself. The good news is that Joe is now up for grabs by another owner that deserves him.

The Yankees are not a bad team, but they just can't get into and win every World Series. George should just learn to deal with that.

ITA!!! :thumbsup2 As others have said, I am not a Yankees fan (despite the fact I was born in Syracuse, NY of full-blooded New Yorker parents) I really like Joe Torre. He IS a class act.

BTW: We relocated to BEANTOWN in 1965...I was a little girl and my dad became one of the biggest Red Sox fans this state has ever seen. And my biggest JOY was the fact that dad LIVED to see his boys win the SERIES!!! :thumbsup2 Dad is 80yo now and still carries his "transistor" radio around with where ever he may be all summer long up in Maine listening to his boys. Yup, glued right to his ear. :thumbsup2

I met both Joe Torre & Willie Randolph while they were filming one of those Subway Sandwich commercials. Joe is a class act, very nice. But he also has a lazer focus when it came to concentrating & getting results. That's why the Yankees were such a stellar team. George Steinbrenner is an idiot. :sad2:

How come everyone thought George was the greatest owner on Earth when the Yanks were winning World Series throughout the 90's? :confused3 :confused3 Suddenly, he's a moron? :rolleyes1

Trust me - he's always been a moron.

Noticed that did ya. :happytv:

I think Lou is too good for them, but he'll take the job because it has always been his dream. He's tight with A-Rod too which might be fun to watch.

Funny how that fanbase goes to loving everybody, and thinking they are the best ever, to wanting to stone them in less than 24 hours. :rolleyes1

I don't disagree with this, but if you tried telling a Yankee fan this a few years ago, all you heard in return was, "You're just jealous that he's spending money" and "What about all those titles he's won?"

I'm just saying too many people change their tunes too quickly for my tastes.

I don't know any Yankee fan that has any respect for George at all. It doesn't matter to us if they have a horrible season or a great one - the man is an idiot at all times. Joe Torre is who we give credit to for the incredible success this team has achieved under his wing. Steinbrenner gets nothing from most Yankee fans.

You're talking to a Yankee fan and a New Yorker that thought George was a moron from day one. The Yanks are a great team in spite of Georgie, not because of him. Just mho. Seinfeld knew.
