Replacing VHS with DVD

I started buying Disney VHS movies when my DW and I were dating in 1992. We have just about every Disney movie except Song of the South and a few others. We have bought a few on DVD but do not intend to replace them all with DVD.

I was wondering how many Disney fanatics out there intend to replace their Disney VHS movies with DVD's?

I've been replacing them as they are re-released.
I plan to do at least all the classics, not sure about the others.

I only have about 20 VHS Disney movies, and now I have 4 of them on DVD. In fact, I'm buying Aladdin today! I have replaced several other of my VHS movies with DVDs using Columbia House and my *membership* runs out this month, so soon I'll be getting offers for 99 cent movies--I'll do mostly Disney this time around.

If we think it can eventually be replaced, it's getting replaced. As such, we've given away most of our Disney VHS.

I am. The VHS's are looking kinda raggady (my kids watch 'em, we don't collect 'em) LOL. I am definately getting Aladdin today, you should hear what the genie's song sounds like on our tape LOL!! Talk about dragging!

I already have replaced most that are available on DVD, although, we didn't have alot of VHS since we mainly collect them for our son, who is 6, and, so, usually, we just purchased DVD's. We adopted him when we were about 40, and he is our only son, so, we didn't have much reason to buy videos when we were in our 20's, when VHS came out and our 30's. I can hardly wait until Cinderella is re-released. I had never seen Winnie the Pooh until we adopted our son. Scary, isn't it?

We've been collecting VHS Disney movies for years now...and they are really worn out...to put it mildly! so yes, I have started collecting the DVD's....I wasn't planning to purchase Alladin but DH was with me when I went in and bought it! (surprise, surprise!)....I plan to give the VHS ones to our kids when they start having kids...

My rules for upgrading if I own the VHS

1) Under 10 with no special features and its in my top 40 favs

2) Under 20 and has to have significant special features that are good

If its just a basic release and there might be a chance for a special edition then I'll wait until my VHS is toast or its a really good deal...

Ive now come to the problem of following rule #1 then having a special feature version released (ie Shawshank Redemption) I'll have to come up with a rule 3..

All the disney 2 disc sets Ive purchased (except New Groove- I *hate* that movie) as they do a pretty good job with the special features and they are just nice sets to have... I am kicking myself SOO hard for not getting the Tarzan 2 disc....

We don't even have a VCR hooked up anymore, so we replace anyting we can

As they come out on DVD, I replace the VHS and give the VHS to DDs for their personal collections.

I've been replacing them as my children ruin them. However, now that my DS has broken the VCR we may need to do it sooner.

I'm trying to find copies of both Grosse Point Blank and LA Confidental to replace VHS versions.Anyone know where to find them? (plus I also have a old version of Mary Poppins,should I replace or wait for a SE DVD)

As soon as dvd's came out i switched to only dvd's and updating when we can.i just put the disney vhs tapes away in a box.

I've been replacing ours as they are released on DVD. I still haven't given up the VHS versions that we've replaced with DVD though, even though the only place we have a VCR anymore is in our bedroom. DS almost 4 has given up napping, but still has "rest time" every day. He goes in our room and watches a movie while his baby sister takes a nap. Until we replace that VCR with a DVD player, we'll hang onto the VHS tapes.

I have Grosse Point Blank, but I bought it a couple of years ago and I can't remember where. Oh, I just checked Amazon, you can order it there.

I have slowly replaced mine too. I think I have Aladdin on VHS - which now I can replace - and Winnie the Pooh, Poohs grand adventure left - which has yet to be on DVD.

What I have done is sold mine at yard sales or even on ebay and put the money I make from selling the VHS to purchase the DVD.
