Ok, so I'm trying to decide on whether or not to get new windows for our house, but every search I do on the internet has tons of complaints for every manufacturer.

Has anyone recently replaced their windows and are happy with them?
What kind did you buy?

We are in the market for new windows in the very near future but cant decide on a brand.

Just remember for every 1 bad review you read there are probably 1000's of satisfied customers. Most people only post a review when they have something to complain about not when they are completely satisfied.

Ok, I'll give this a shot. My husband is in construction/remodeling. Recently he has been installing Pella windows in existing homes. He has been very happy with these windows. We have Anderson windows in our home though. We remodeled a few years back and updated the windows ~ hence the replacement Anderson windows. Although we have no problem with them, he likes the Pella windows better. As you said, for every negative there is a positive. Hope you are happy with whatever you decide upon.

I will say the Andersen does back their products (even if you have to complain up the corporate chain at bit) We got 17 windows replaced under the 20 year warranty for FREE! Of course we had to paint/install ourselves but the window costs were free.. Nothing like a huge drop ship of windows in the house. I will say though Andersen corporate were a huge pain in the patootie to me and we did have to complain fairly loudly but they did stand behind the product.. and 20 years does mean 20 years! The windows were installed in 1988 and we got them replaced 2006-2007 (we didn't know if it was either limited, lifetime or 20 year warranty). Andersen did have a record of the previous homeowner purchasing the windows so that helped.

Since we saved so much money the first time, we wound up replacing all the other non Andersen windows in the house this past year. We went with BF Rich and we do like them. We got our bathroom window replaced and two kitchen windows replaced. The local salesguys were great to work with and were very professional. Since the larger kitchen is an addition to the house and the bathroom is well the bathroom, I didn't think it would be that much of a difference. The BF Rich's qualified for an energy credit and they do cut down on glare.

We have an older house so we have to get vintage style windows so our choices of manufacturers are slightly limited. We had to get windows replaced on a home we owned back in the early 90's and they weren't the greatest quality.

I had the same question posted here a few months ago. Our windows are on order and should be here next week. :cool1: I'll update that post when we start the actual replacement.

There are LOTS of window brands and some are local to certain parts of the country. Also, every retail location thinks their brands are the best. I was lucky (I think) and talked with an independent installer. He's "certified" by Anderson, Jeldwen, Simonton and Pella. He was able to give me his personal choice and why. He also had installed replacement windows in his home and was able to give me the pros and cons of what he chose too. My mother also had replacment windows done about three years ago.

I really did get to the point of feeling overwhelmed with the research.

We finally decided on Don Young windows that are constructed in the Dallas area. (We live in Texas too.)

Good luck and do remember that most people only write a review when they are unhappy.

My window replacement has just started today--

But I don't live in Ohio--I live in Florida...

So I have impact glass/insulated/tinted windows getting installed. The impact glass really raises the price of them. So far I LOVE them. Work is not finished, yet though.

The brand is PGT. It is only rated for the very lower SE parts that get hit by hurricanes (since it is impact glass). That doesn't help you much. No idea how the brand rates overall for the rest of the country.

We replaced our windows with Marvin windows and have been happy. The aluminum exterior and wood interiors have been nice in our high altitude climate (Colorado).

The Windows America vinyl alternative was one we seriously considered before going with the Marvin choice due to the significant cost difference. Be sure that you like your installer and their references.

We just got new windows at thanksgiving and really shopped around. We got Pella and they were the best of what we looked at. They were a really easy company to work with. We did have a bit of problems with the installers who were extremely slow and took twice the time to install causing issues for us having Thanksgiving here.

I did have leaking around the one window recently and they came out 2 days later to look at it and re caulk.

We are very satisfied. HTH
