Has anyone ever had to request a replacement DVC Member card?

My trip is in a month and I just realized I have no idea where it is. I just emailed Member Services because they're closed for the day but I guess I'll try calling them tomorrow and ask, but in the meantime I'm antsy.

Background: My parents first bought DVC memberships in 1992, when I was 13. Both of their names were on the contract, but my Mom was always the one who actually used it or knew anything about it. (My Dad, although he's been to WDW dozens of times and secretly enjoys it, plays grumpy about it.) When I turned 18 my mom added me as an Associate Member so I could go down with my sister and our girlfriends, and book my own reservations.

Mom died last November and since that was basically the only property she owned, we contacted Member Services to transfer ownership completely to Dad. That was allowed because his name was on the original contract - however, ownership can't be transferred to me and my sister without going through probate, which we didn't have the wherewithal to deal with at the time. (Mom died of a heart attack very suddenly at age 61 while on a cruise with Dad, who's 74 - it was quite a shock and I miss her a great deal.)

Anyway, the point is that I'm still an Associate, not a Primary- so I'm hoping they won't give me any trouble about sending me a new card. They can alway send it to Dad and I'll just take it with me. I want to have it so I can buy an Annual Pass with the DVC discount while I'm down there, and I'm pretty sure I need to have the actual card to get the discount.

Anyone have any experiences with requesting a new card?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but as an associate member you are not entitled to any DVC discounts. Only members who have their names on the deed can get a member card and the perks associated with it. Even if they send your dad a new card it will have his name on it, not yours. If he is not traveling with you they will not allow you to purchase an AP at the member price.

Hm, odd, I've definitely used that card on trips without either of my parents was able to get discounts.

Not entirely true....If you have the same address as your dad, you can get the DVC AP discount. You must show that you reside at the same address.

There have been many reports of family members not being able to get the discount unless the member is with them.

Looks like YMMV - I'm going to forego the AP if it's a problem. The other discounts don't matter much to me and I go for 3-4 days at a time so the savings isn't so spectacularly huge for me. (If I was able to go for 8 days at a time like some of you lucky people, that'd be a different story!)

If Dad now has ownership and he doesn't want it, I am pretty sure that he can do a family transfer to you and probate has nothing to do with it. You will have to comply with Disney's rules for a family transfer including ROFR but it may be worth looking into.

I've been thinking about this. I'll talk about it with him - sis and I will have to do all the research/arrangements and tell him what to do but it sounds like that'll be the easiest thing in the long run. He really doesn't want to go back there now that Mom's gone.

I'm just wondering if the fact that Mom's name was on the original deed won't affect that, but I guess that's something to find out.
