Renting reservation questions - pls help!

Sammie, I did not mean to suggest that PayPal itself would offer protection to a renter. Instead, PayPal would merely be a means by which a renter could pay an individual via credit card instead of via personal or certified check. It appears that the credit card issuer could issue a chargeback to PayPal--at its own discretion to be sure--if a card holder claimed fraud in a transaction, and that PayPal would subsequently take action against the seller.

Here is a quote from PayPal's User Agreement found at:

http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/UserAgreement/ua/USUA-outside

4.5 Risk of Reversals, Chargebacks and Claims. When you receive a payment, you are liable to PayPal for the full amount of the payment plus any Fees if the payment is later invalidated for any reason. This means that, in addition to any other liability, you will be responsible for the amount of the payment, plus the applicable Fees listed in section 8 of this Agreement if you lose a Claim or a Chargeback, or if there is a Reversal of the payment.
You agree to allow PayPal to recover any amounts due to PayPal by debiting your Balance. If there are insufficient funds in your Balance to cover your liability, you agree to reimburse PayPal through other means. If a sender of a payment files a Chargeback, the credit card issuer, not PayPal, will determine who wins the Chargeback.

Again, I don't have personal experience in this area so this suggestion is FWIW.

Coming from the POV of someone who has rented to non-members many times,,,,,
I've had nothing but positive interractions with everyone I've rented too. I know a few of them were nervous about the whole thing, but there are a few ways they were made more comfortable.
First - find someone with a HIGH post count. You can even look at some of their posts. Most of us who rent plan on renting more than once - I rent every year - between 1 and 4 rentals a year. Not a lot - but enough. There are only two places like this on the internet and we, as rentee's, NEED THEM ;) If we mess up - and can't rent here, renting get s alot more difficult!
Second - ask to talk to them on the phone. Get a home phone number, and an address from them, and chat with them about previous renting experiences. I LOVE to talk about vacations, Disney planning, etc.
Third - just remember, most of the rentee's here are just Disney lovers like you who have extra points. Good people who are also taking a risk of some liability if damage is done to the rooms, checks bounce, etc.
I have only used a contract once, at the renter's requests (I have no problem using them, just have never really needed one...), and that worked out great...
Depending on the dates of the reservation - here's my personal policy - but it's just mine and it's flexible. Rentees all do what they feel comfortable with... If the reservations is far enough out (more than 45 days) I ask for 50% when they recieve the letter from me, and the rest at the 45 day mark before the trip. If the trip is less than 45 days out - I ask for 50% before I make the ressie, and the rest as soon as they get the letter. Less than 30 days - 100% through paypal before I make the ressie.
Hope this helps

You can use this link to confirm that your DVC reservation exists. Granted though, the member can cancel the reservation at anytime. I've rented points and have always had a good experience.

If I wanted to rent a reservation for one night to add to the front of our trip, I can use the above link to confirm the reservation before I pay right?

So the owner needs my primary guest name BEFORE they make the ressie?

Can I link this ressie to my existing one?

I'm not sure I'd trust the mydisneyvacation to be one hundred percent accurate, either. Some members have reported it isn;t finding their reservation, or it is under a bad phone number.

As long as it is for the same resort, room size and class/category, you should be able to link them.
