Renting points

This is probably a stupid question, but I am confused about how to go about renting points and reserving at the 11th month window. We will need 12 points to complete our vacation plans for Jan 2006. I want to be able to reserve at BWV in Feb. I realize there is a rent board, but once I do that, how do I make the reservation? We will be there for 10 days and I don't want to have to move because I don't have all my points in place when I call MS. Do I have to make two seperate ressies or will my rented points be added to my own points?

I'll try to answer this one correctly. Since you are trying to book a complete reservation with mostly your own points, your best bet would be to have points transferred to your DVC account from another Member. Then the points become yours and you can combine to make your intended reservation.

Okay, another question. Do I need all the points to reserve or do I just need them by the time I check in? For example, if I am short 79 points of a 311 point reservation at the 11mth window in Feb, can I reserve anyway and then find the points from a renter later? It seems that most of those on the rent board aren't looking to rent points for that far out (jan '06) but are looking for more immediate needs. I absolutely do not want to have to move rooms because of having to make separate ressies.

I am also guessing that as the 11mth window comes up, there may be more rentals available, how long does it take for the transfers to go through?

You have to have all needed points at the time of making the reservation. For example, if your reservation requires 250 points, you will need 250 valid points to book the reservation. The deal with the 11 month window is owners at a particular resort have 11 month window booking advantage at their home resort. If you are interested in Boardwalk Villas for January 2006, then in February 2005 you would need the 11 month booking priority (meaning Boardwalk Villa points) to book that reservation. Folks that own elsewhere cannot book at Boardwalk until 7 months out. This is why you see different availability on the points offered on the rental board. Again, if you have "some" points but need more to complete your reservation, your best bet is a "transfer" rather than a rental.

Yes, but we are having guests stay with us, which is why we need the extra points. This way we thought we could have them "buy" the extra points they are causing us to purchase since we will need all of our points from the next use year as well (we are buying ap for the first time and will be traveling twice in one year).

So, what is my best bet for obtaining transferred points before Feb 18?
