We are DVC owners looking to rent points for an upcoming trip (or stay at Pop.) It seems that there are many sites that rent points... can anyone tell me where to look if these sites or certain people have a bad reputation.
I'd like to do everything possible to make sure that we're not going to arrive only to find out that our reservation was cancelled.

ok... so now I have another question - you can tell that I'm new to renting/transfer. What exactly is the transfer? Does that mean that they transfer the points to my account? meaning that they are my points at that point????

Once that is done... then I have to assume that the original point owner would not be able to take them back... and I would then have the opportunity to make my reservations as I see fit and I wouldn't have to worry about being scammed????

DVC members are allowed one transfer in or out of an account per UY. So if you were to find another owner with points to transfer, they would be able to transfer them into your account by calling MS and requesting the transfer. They would need your membership number to do this. Once the transfer is completed, the points are yours and the other member does not have anything to do with them anymore. The points are supposed to retain the original resort and UY. From what I have learned, transferred points cannot be borrowed, but they can be banked. Hope this helps.

There are not guarantees when you rent points from a DVC owner. They hold the contract with DVC and are the owner of the reservation until you actually check in. They could "cancel" at any time up to that point. So there is trust involved, no assurances.

If you are comparing to a POP reservation, then DVC will cost you more for vacation.

David's rental site is advertised on the top of our DVC Boards, you may want to check that out if you are so inclined.

Good luck!

Don't forget to check the Rent & Trade Board here at DIS. I've had good experiences both renting and trading to/from other members.

You can only recieve a point transfer if you are a current DVC member- if you are not and want to stay at DVC rates at a DVC resort then you would have to rent a reservation from a DVC member.

We are indeed DVC members... it sounds like the transfer is the safest way for us... how is the money usually transferred? Is paypal an instant transfer?

Someone suggested that I could make a 3-way call with DVC and the point owner to ensure that the transfer is made but how do they know that they will get their money? Just trying to take as much risk out of this as possible.

FYI do not mention a transfer of money to MS. It is technically not allowed. Money would be whatever you agreed upon with the owner. I would guess many would want it up front in full or at least a %.

DVC will not get involved in any rental or transfer problem. That is why it is stated in the POS that you can not recieve any compensation for transfers.

Misty, if you own points and are looking to rent, DISboards (this board) recently changed their rules restricting who can “post” new rental threads via the rent/trade page. Here is a link to those rules http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2647748.

If you're actually looking to rent points from a DVC member then you can certainly try the rent/trade board here http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=29,

"Dave's service" (a sponsor on this board) does broker/rent out points at a premium price. There are other reputable brokers out there (who have competitive rates) - I would suggest checking them out first - you may save yourself a few bucks.

If you're looking for other rent/trade alternatives, you may want to consider checking out some other Disney DVC related message boards on the web. There is more activity on some of the other boards out there and I think that you’ll find more choice as a result (i.e. more persons who wish to rent from a DVC owner, and more DVC owners who wish to rent out their points – as well as a variety of other broker choices [like David's service] who rent out points on behalf of other DVC owners).

Lastly - before renting to someone or wanting to rent PLEASE PLEASE do research -- in the end there is always some risk, and you certainly want to mitigate that risk as much as possible.

I hope that helps.

Good Luck and Cheers!
