I have rented points before on this site - a very good experience; however, lately it seems that points are hard to come by or much more expensive than other sites - particularly ***********. Points seem more readily avaiable on that site and for a few bucks cheaper? However, the downside appears that the "sellers" are relatively "newbies" with few posts. I also noticed that sites resort ratings are very old - maybe I am not using the site correctly in that respect. Has anyone used *********** before --or have an opinion here - I have two leads on renting points for $10 point and am feeling a bit nervous....

I am asking them the obvious Q's - have they rented before, do they have references, do they accept paypal, etc - but, none of these are safeguards against fraud...

When I was in the market to rent points back in November, I was bummed to not be able to find what I was looking for on the DIS Rent/Trade boards. But in talking with other Disers, they pointed me in the direction of ************ and I found someone there to rent from. I did all my due diligence (checked the owner's name on the comptroller's Web site, got several references that all checked out). I won't know for sure that I haven't been scammed until next October, but the owner I'm renting from has been very responsive and helpful to this point. (And I check my reservation once a week on the DVC Web site).

IMO an experienced owner knows the value of their points. Initial contract cost and the increasing yearly dues have a bearing on the price. In addition they know what they are doing and insist on a written agreement, provide references, and have a positive track record. They are also easy to get in touch with and will help guide you by answering questions.

Sure you might get a reservation cheaper somewhere else, you might luck out and you might not. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

You may also find that someone has a different name on each board and may have thousands of entries on one and only a few on the other if they have just found the second one.

Truly makes no difference where you find the deal, it is only as good as the person you are dealing with.

Hi could you tell me where abouts on the DVC website you check your reservation? I have rented points for our December stay at OKW thru an english member on a British forum, and have no concerns about her reliabilty. I have the hard copy of the paperwork that was sent to the member so I know its all ok, but it would still be nice to see it on the screen, and would be easier for ADR's if the reservation number was recognised (its not recognised on the WDW reservations website)

Many thanks for any help :goodvibes

I have rented points from as well as rented to. I have only done it a few times on another board that i belong to and have found people are very good to deal with in general. There are lots of contracts out there that you can have them use. You can generally tell those that make a business out of it and those that are just trying to sell leftover points.
If in doubt there are a lot of people with legit. businesses out there but you will pay more for their points.
If you are looking to rent cheap then you have to have faith that they are being honest with you..

The person I rented from sent me to this Web site:
www.mydisneyreservation.com/dvc

Just copy in your reservation number and last name of the lead person on the reservation and it should bring up the reservation. You can add celebrations here too. :goodvibes

I don't mind paying a few more bucks than what I paid a few years ago - I just noticed that the other site seems to have more readily available then DIS boards and they are seem to be lower too? Just an observation really and wanted to get feedback from others.
I agree about the earlier post saying some have many posts here and only a few on the other site - that would be me too! I just joined the other site recently - but, to date - I have replied to three different posts from 3 different people and right when I think we are ready to progress and have an agreement I don't ever hear back from them?? Odd...

well.... I have time on my side so far - we aren't going until Oct 2012... so I keep looking here... :thumbsup2
thanks everyone!
