My sister would like to bring her family to OKW next summer when I am there with my family. I don't have points to cover her accomodations but she really would like to stay at OKW either a 2 bdrm or 2 studios. Is renting points the cheapest way to do this or should we be watching for a code or AP or DC discount? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks !!

You can book a cash room through DVC at 11 months, and you don't have to put a deposit down like you do on a CRO reservation. I would book something now and work on a deal price over the next year. The DVC cash discount is 25% if you can get one of these discounted rooms through MS.

Good Luck.

Hi Debby-
I my experience, renting points is usually cheaper. Based on my calculations, a 2-bedroom at OKW next summer is 30 points Sun-Thurs (73 on Fri/Sat). If you rent points at $10 (you can probably find $9), it will run $300/night renting points. The cash rack rate is $560- even with a 25% discount, its still $420. So, Sun-Thurs it is definitely cheaper to rent points. You could do points for the weekdays and cash for the weekend for the greatest savings.

Good luck with your decision.

That would be my suggestion also. That seems like a tough deal to beat, esp. if you find $9 points. Someone just had a larger volume of points offered at the DVC Rent/Trade Board too.

For the regular season I know the points and prices increase but in our case it is mixed.

For the first week of October we have rented points for during the week and have a cash reservation for the weekend.

At $10.00 a point it is cheaper to rent points during the week than cash ressies with an AP holder discount for a 1 Bedroom at OKW.
Sunday thru Thursday 18 points a nite x $10.00 = $180.00
CRO + AP rate = $188.00 (tax included) cash ressie

But for the weekend Friday and Saturday
42 points x $10.00 = $420.00
CRO + AP rate = $265.00 (tax included) cash ressie

Of course this is one of the more affordable times of the year to go.

If you decide to rent points, I'd recommend that you get OKW points if you can and have them transferred into your acount. That way, you & your sister will have a little more flexibility with scheduling the vacation (you can do both at the same time) and if you have to cancel or make a change, you won't have to work through anyone else.

Enjoy the trip!
