Hi everyone. Has anyone rented a large SUV like a Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon or Ford Explorer? If so, what company(s) rents them? What was your rate?

Whenever I go to the major companies they only offer the smaller SUV's and they won't be large enough for our group of 8 plus luggage. Thanks!

I don't know if any of the companies offer a large SUV, but I highly doubt that the Explorer would be big enough for 8 plus luggage (unless most of the 8 are children and their luggage is a lot smaller). You would need a Suburban/Yukon XL or Ford Excursion-type vehicle, or a multi-passenger van (which I believe most of the companies do have, at least Budget does, they have a Ford E-350 which "comfortably" seats 12).

A couple years ago, we rented a Yukon XL from Budget, and in July we rented a Durango from National. Both were rented as Full-Size SUV's. I don't think the airport Budget has the full-size ones anymore, though.

The Hertz website lists Ford Expeditions, Ford Excursions, and Lincoln navagators.

The National website lists Full Size SUV - Dodge Durango or similar vehicle.

I couldn't find full size SUV's at any of the others .

Good Luck.

Thanks for your quick responses!
I guess I should have given a little more info on our party ::yes:: . We are 4 adults with 4 kids and we will be renting an economy class car also. We wanted a large SUV for those times when we will need to travel to the parks together. I thought a large SUV plus a small car would be able to carry us and all the luggage. My fear is that a mini-van will only carry 7 of us but would probably do alright for the luggage along with the car.

Anyone, please feel free to give suggestions. And as usual, THANK YOU ALL! :Pinkbounc

Ford Explorer will only seat 7 people. I beleive that a Dodge durango is the same seating capacity as the explorer.

While you maybe be able to squeeze in one more person, they only have seatbelts for seven. Not safe

dvc guy is correct. The Dodge Durange only seats 7. National's website says it seats 8, but I checked on Dodge's site and it only seats 7.

In the spring I rented a full size SUV from Budget and could not imagine squishing 8 people plus luggage in it! I would say you could do 5 comfy with luggage. It was nice and large, but if you had the 3rd row of seats in, almost all your luggage space was gone.

FYI - We have a Ford Explorer reserved through Budget for 11/11-11/14, a 3-day rental for $97.33 (incl. taxes & fees) using a Costco code and a Costco coupon. Booked it on 9/10. Hope this helps.

We rented a ford excursion march 2004 in Grand Rapids,MI from AVIS. You might want to check them to see if they offer them in Orlando.

I used the codes from the enternaiment book and got it for $416 on a 9 day rental.

Oh, i own a dodge durango and it seats 7 max.

hth!

I would be interested in renting a full sized SUV from Alamo
or National (we currently have a luxuary car because there are
6 of us). I can't find those full sized SUV 's on either site. Do you have to do it by phone or is there a way to check prices on their
internet site?

Thanks for the help

We did rent the Durago from National (it was listed at as a Full-Size SUV), and we have rented luxury cars from them many times. I just wanted to note, though, every luxury car I can remember getting from them has been a Park Avenue that seats five. Just be aware of that.

Well now I am really confused!!

I rented a luxury car because on the National and Alamo site
they show it seats 6!

The SUV shows it only seats five.

How do figure this out?

We have gotten Durango's twice from Dollar (complimentary upgrades both times) and both times they seated 8...I am no expert on SUV's, but there were definately 3 seatbelts in the middle and rear seats. The center seat would be kind of tight for 3 adults IMHO....but a couple of kids and an adult would be OK....especially since you won't be riding long distances,

In the past I've rented a Ford Expedition and then a Ford F-150 Supercrew pickup in Orlando from Budget It was nice as I was thinking of buying a new vehicle, so it was like an extended test drive. Wound up buying a Supercrew.

One thing to verify.

If you are planning on using your coverage on a credit card as the insurance then make sure it covers these types of rentals. Some of them don't.

Excellent point!! Thanks for the tip. I've verified coverge for cars and mini-vans but didn't even think about it after that.

Bump.

Just wanted to bring this thread back current as I am still trying to get some more advice as to where to rent the large SUV's (Expedition etc.).

Thanks everyone for your help!
