Has anyone rented from people off of the Timeshare User Group (TUG) or Redweek.com?

We are looking into going to Williamsburg, VA for a week this summer and those websites have several good deals individuals are offering for the dates we need. I have looked at the condo's website and they look like very nice units.

I am a little nervous renting from individuals and just wanted to see if others had any experience w/ it.

**I know that this isn't about Orlando, but I thought I might get some good opinions on the subject here.***

I find the rental prices on TUG to be very high so I have yet to rent there. i have rented a number of times through auctions won on eBay and it has worked out very well and the prices are much better.

Thanks for the info!!

I will keep checking on that website Spiceycat, that will be good for future trips as well.

I have found 2 units on TUG for 595.00 and 695.00 that seem nice. One is at Greensprings Plantation and the other is at Williamsburg Plantation.

I am excited about staying in a condo here. We have always done motel rooms in Wmsburg and I think having the condo will make the trip so much better!!!

I also just checked e-bay and while they didn't have anything for our dates right now, I will keep watching. They did seem to have some good deals.

We have rented 3 times from owners on vrbo.com. Once to chicago, twice for Park city, UT. We have never had a problem and the prices are right. I also think you have to pay to become a member for redweek, even if you are a renter. Not something I would do. Good luck.

Hi welovedisneyx4!

I'm down the road from you in Staunton. We go to Williamsburg 1-2per year and I have had good luck with rentals. Most of mine have been somewhat last minute, though, and not prime summer season. Do you have specific dates you're looking for? I know super early June is good, we have a unit booked at the Greensprings for 6/1 - 6/8 and many of the schools in the area are not out yet, so it's a great time to go.

We love the Greensprings, but the Powhatan is also very pretty. I believe the Powhatan has more units and may be easier to find.

Let me know your dates and I'll let you know if I see anything. I'm constantly checking around for good deals!!

Sarah

I have rented twice off of Redweek. Both were for DVC and both went very smoothly. It does cost 9.99 (6 months) to become a "member", but I can justify that cost with the substantial savings of the rentals. I have rented at OKW and SSR for roughly 1/3-1/2 of Disney rack rates.

We've rented, rented out, bought and sold through TUG and other online sources. So far, all have gone well. The benefits are reasonable costs and availability at sold out properties. The downsides are that you need to be able to take a bit of a leap of trust in the person(s) with whom you are dealing and most owners cannot provide a lengthy cancellation period because they lose money if you back out. Look for people who've been around the website a while. After emailing, consider talking on the phone, to get a feel for what they are like. If you don't know much about them, consider getting a written contract between you.

All that said, it's worked well for us many times and the benefits have easily outweighed the risks for us.

Feel free to write with offline questions or if you want more info about what we sometimes offer for rentals. We are a family who own several timeshares - we don't work in that business. :) HTH.

Thanks for all the info!! We are looking at going around the end of June or July. I know it will be hot, crowded, etc... but w/ school and sports, that's about the only time we can go. We are used to the heat and we will have plenty of time, so we can take our time and not worry about the crowds.

I'm just glad there are some options for a condo at a reasonable price!! I think I am going to try to pin down a date so we can get something reserved.

Thanks again!!

We rented at the King's Creek Plantation. It's a very charming place with a great indoor and outdoor pool. The rooms are no frills but decent enough. It was clean and did the trick for a 4 night stay. I'm not sure if you're looking for 4* (that it isn't) but we were just looking for a nice, reasonable, clean place to stay, and it fit the bill.
