Renting a car

Will driving my rental car to the parks and/or resorts save me time over the disney buses???

Or should I just stick with the bus system thanks!

leaving in two weeks for an 8 day trip.

In general, the time that you save in driving will be eaten up in the time it takes to go from parked car to the tram and from the tram to the park entrance. The only exception that I can think of would be when visiting AK, the waterparks and DTD. The Disney transportation to/from those locations is not direct and can really eat up a lot of time.

If you are driving to a resort for dinner it is probably faster to go between say Old Key WEst and another resort by car rather than depend on the bus to get you there exactly on time. If you are going from a Disney Resort for dinner at a park you will probably be OK for a dinner reservation as long as you establish ahead of time how long the bus usually takes. Personnally I don't like to rely on any form of public transportation to get me anywhere in DVC in under an hour. Unless I have the luxury of arriving in the area way ahead of my reservation and then spending time in the area where we are having dinner I don't use the bus system. This is not to say the bus system is not good - it is that there are just too many variables to say you can definitely get from A to B in a fixed amount of time every time you take the bus.
