Renter's "etiquette" - please advise! (long)

I just got off the phone with MS; no bust signal and total time from first ring to live person was about 1 minute, and that's with navigating the various automated menu's.

Just wanted to make it clear that I wasn't talking about calls in the last couple weeks. Haven't had to call MS in a few weeks.

Okay I am done. Just thought the OP deserved some curtesy. She was polite and trying to be informed. My problem has nothing to do with the right or wrong answer.

I hear so much talk about how members moan about rentee's just not understanding the process or what is at risk to the members points and someone comes here, asks valid and polite questions about how she should proceed and she gets a snarky response.

Have a nice day.

Aneille-- I hope I am able to rent points from you someday. I'm glad we have these boards to know which owners would be nice to work with in the future. You are definitely one of them.

I had similar questions. planning to visit at the beginning of October. We have regular resort reservations, but my Mom would really like the Boardwalk. I thought about renting points- enough to rent 3 studios standard view. However, my concern is weather. Hurricanes to be more specific. Don't laugh- 2 years ago we were suppose to go to Vero Beach, but disney cancelled. what would happen if had to cancel. regular reservations I can buy trip insurance or move the dates, but i don't think that renting points would be that flexible. I don't want to take a chance with everyone elses money, and told mess things up. Didn't know if it would be possible to get my money back and the owner his points, or reschedule. Any information would be appreciated.

4 of the last 5 times I have called I have encountered multiple busy signals before getting through and then been on hold for 18 minutes or more. In a couple of those cases, after getting through and before being being put on hold, the phone rang for a full 5 minutes before getting picked up to put me on hold. I would consider that pretty busy.

And Dr. P. I would agree that - that is pretty busy! But I have only run into that during the 11 month Christmas window on MS-Mondays, which I expected, and I got through!

Not saying that others (and you) haven't had significant MS waits, it just hasn't happened to me ...... yet!

It would depend on the terms you'd worked out with who you rented from. Actually DVC canceling isn't the issue, the real problem is if they don't cancel but you are concerned they will last minute or they don't but the weather is bad and you don't want to chance it. I can tell you what happens with II exchanges, you are out of luck even if DVC were to cancel. II has rules that say they have no responsibility. Sometimes they'll offer to let you cancel and you just pay another exchange fee but that's about it.
