So I am new to this renting process and don't seem to be having much luck. If you are an owner that rents points, what do you look for in a renter candidate? What is all the info you would like right at the beginning or the questions I should be asking. The points are selling out before I get to rent them.

Thank you. :)

You need to know exactly when you are going, where you want to stay, what size villa. You can ask for a contract and how you will need to pay the owner.

Thank you. I think what set me back was my first, second and third choice were all sold out and by the time I found one that was available the points were gone since I haven't heard back again. I have a flight booked and ADRs already but no place to stay. :rotfl: I will keep trying. :teacher:

If you are looking for anytime from Thanksgiving to New Years, you will have a hard time. That is a very popular time for members. You may need to go with one of the larger resorts, like OKW or SSR. You might get AKV, but you won't get BLT theme park view, you won't get BWV BW view and VWL will be hard to get.

Right now I am trying to book the first week in ***, but I am also looking for the ******. I would be thrilled with *** for the after ******** trip since we need a two bedroom for that trip and the points aren't as high there.

Thanks again for the advice. :)

Understand that DVC room inventory is far more limited than the cash resorts and members tend to book much further in advance.

If you are looking for something for May--which is only 2 months away--I'll be surprised if you can get anything other than Saratoga Springs, Old Key West or Animal Kingdom Villas. Some of those may not even be available.

As for post-Thanksgiving, as Deb & Bill said it's a very popular time. Members have had 3+ months to book those dates already and you can bet that certain resorts and views are already gone. If you are eyeballing the Value category at Animal Kingdom Villas, I would say the odds are not good. There are only about 40 value rooms available and they go quickly due to low cost. Standard and Savanna views are probably still available but now is definitely the time to start looking.

Thank you, lesson learned. I did not think they would be totally booked. Someone did get back to me that there were studios available at AKL and SSR for my dates but after I emailed back that would be fine and I would like to proceed I haven't heard back. Since she was emailing back quickly before I am just guessing her points are all gone. :sad1: I will start working on the trip in ***** ASAP.

Just keep checking for the later period you mentioned. It will get harder at the 7 month point as DVC owners can the book outside their home resort. I think it also depends on how many points you are requesting. I imagine rentees are hoping to either rent all their points in one transaction, or 2-3 at the most. Least hassle and risk there. Go read this and pay particular attention to the links at end of first post.

There is also another msg board on the internet where people discuss renting points (in case you are looking to cast your net further.) I can't post the link here, but an ol' fashioned Google search ought to find it for you. Also by your post here, you might get unsolicited private msgs asking you how many points you need etc. Those are against DIS board rules and should be reported.

Thank you for the heads up, I will report any unsolicited pms. So far I haven't even gotten solicited pms, lol.

Just a reminder that specific date/resort info is only allowed on the Rent/Trade board. We do not want any posts on the general DVC Board that could be used as a means of bypassing our Rent/Trade board. Specific info has been edited out of previous posts.

Thanks.

you need to have flexibility! i've rented points many times and it helps when someone says I'm looking for a studio for 7 consecutive nights during the first two weeks of August....something will probably be there. BUT if you get too specific: 6 nights at BLT from starting May 3, 1 bedroom with Magic Kingdom vies, then your chances are going to be less.

Be open and have your money read to go!

I never thought I would say this, but you might want to try a service for finding points to rent. The restrictions on how the RT board is used seem to be making this quite a chore for you, where it doesn't need to be. You'll deal with one person, and although you'll pay a few more $$ per point, it's probably worth it to not have the stress of having several conversations going at once with people who may or may not be renting their points to someone else.

Oops, sorry, won't do that again.

Good tip, thank you.

I might do this, I am getting no where right now.

If you have flights booked, you are best suited going to Timeshare Store (link at top of page) or David's Vacation Rentals (google it). You will pay an extra $1-$3 per point but it's worth it in light of the fact that you have money at risk with the flights. Their services are both very professional, and you will basically get your answer immediately. I am not sure when you are looking to go b/c the dates are x'd out above, but if there is ANYTHING available, they will be able to find it and book it quickly.

You could spend a lot of time on the rent/trade boards before you find a match, and if your dates are within the next few months you need an answer ASAP.

Thank you everyone. Just a quick update, I was able to successfully rent points from the first owner I contacted from the rent/transfer board. :goodvibes Yay, we are looking forward to our first stay at Kidani Village. I greatly appreciate all of your tips and from now on will start my search earlier!
