Just wondering, during SW opening and for the next year. Do you think that rental prices both here on the boards and at the rental agencies will jump due to demand.
We usually have a few points to rent to regulars that we know. I dont plan on jacking up their price. I know them and am not worried about how they might look after the room.
But for those that do rent often, or demand from the agencies, do you think it might jump a little?

Inventory definitely has diminished a lot quicker this year than in the past, I think it is due to their being so many rental companies now. It's hard to say if they'll raise the prices they charge, I think it's all based between them not on what Disney is doing. I know about a year ago they all increased prices they charge and pay to owners but what they'll in the coming years is hard to say.
I would say probably sometime in the next few years but hard to say when or what they'll increase to, and there would be fine line where then going through privately would save money and the agencies would need to lower back down their prices to say in business.

From what I see the price have already gone up. It’s not uncommon for owners to charge $18-20 pp. Will it increase more than that I don’t know.

The problem with the rental companies is that they require owners with available points.

Why should I rent with them if I only get $13-14 pp and by myself I get $18-20. I know I know some will say for security if they trash the room or for the easiness.

If I can pocket $500 or more by doing the renting myself then I would. As with everything else you need to pick your renters carefully. Why rent to someone who want to stay 7 in a studio o_O

Star Wars Land is going to open in "late fall 2019", which could be nearer 12/21 than we hope. I would not rent points for fall 2019 (or book for yourself) and expect to be able to enter SWL.

Yeah I read that too, but maybe and just maybe they are gonna surprise us all with an earlier date :-)

I attribute the shortage of points in the rental market to increased awareness via facebook and other social media outlets. People are being told they can stay in deluxe accommodations for the price of a moderate, so they're looking into do it. The problem being that there are only so many owners willing to rent. The big rental companies upped what they were willing to pay (and also upped the amount they charge) in the last few years to try to get more points to rent. I'm not sure that's been effective, as @Cyberc1978 stated, owners can now easily directly rent points for as much, or more than what the rental companies charge.

Ha!

I know everyone is supposed to, but not everyone does, report rental income on their tax forms. We actually need a 1099 so for that reason, would prefer to rent through an agency, if we ever were to rent points. (I have thought about this at length even though we always seem to find a way to use up our points.)

You can report your rental income without a 1099. David's, based in Canada, does not issue a 1099 to people who rent their points.

In the UK they've removed all cash bookings from October 2019 onwards (people in UK come for 2+ weeks, book free dining plan which is open most of year, and thus book v early whenplan announced).
Suspicion is Disney want to increase prices substantially so have pulled all the bookings .
If true, expect similar pricing strategies in USA.
If true, rental rates will have to go up, as $14 a point doesn't cut it.
