We got a great rate (we think) on a car through Dollar but there is a warning about toll highways no longer taking cash, transpoders only. Is this a worry for driving to WDW from the airport or to the port for a cruise?

Thanks for any help you can give.

You chose the correct word in the title of this post "scare". You can easily go from MCO to WDW or the Port on the toll roads using cash to pay the tolls.

This question pops up here every couple of weeks.

You are exactly right, it is nothing more than a scare tactic to sell you their prepaid toll plan.

Every toll both in the Orlando area accepts cash. You will need to watch the signs to avoid the "Prepaid Tolls" lanes. All mainline toll plazas give change, but most exit toll booths require exact change in multiples of $0.25.

The only cashless toll roads in FL are in the Miami area, and I think one road in the Tampa area which is easily avoided.

There are still manned booths on 417 to Disney. We just did the drive in June. Just pay attention since you have to go off to the right (actually makes it look like you are exiting the highway). This scare tactic is just a complete money maker for the rental car companies. They charge per day or a weekly rate which is more than the tolls and transponder would be in the first place - then multiply that by everyone they con into getting the transponder and they are making great money. The tolls are $1.25 each and there are two.

when I got to dollar the car I held was not available...but no worries, they upgraded my vehicle (for a COST:headache: ) I walked right to the next rental counter........

We rented from Dollar last year, and the agent behind the counter used that scare tactic on us, and copped major attitude with us when we declined the prepaid tolls. Because of her, and the condition of the car, Dollar was by far our worst rental experience ever. We will never rent from them again.
