I haven't rented a car in Orlando in quite a few years but am going to on our next trip.

Does anyone use the sky cap to drop bags and then return the car, or do you drag your bags from the car rental place to your carriers counter?

We rented from an on site company, we have a lot of bags I.E. 10 day trip size bags plus fishing rod tubes and multiple sets of golf clubs ( love Southwest ;) ).

We also have a late flight home, like 10 PM. So I'm sure burning some time won't be an issue.

So is there any reason this is a bad idea?

You say "we". If you're dropping off luggage, I would drop off people, too. They can check the luggage while the primary renter returns the car. Not such a great idea if the others are all minors.

If the group has 2 checked bags per person then the driver needs to check his own bags. I don't think you can check someone else's bags for them.

If you are staying on property, drop the bags with RAC at your resort and then just drive the car back. Easy Peasy!

If you drop passengers off at curbside you will have to drive all the way around

the airport to get back into the car rental return lane. . This can take some time.

I'm not on property, it's a split stay at universal and Marriotts Grande Vista.

We have a 10 PM flight home so I'm sure we won't be pressed for time.

I don't think it's going to be seamless, best case is I drop part or everyone off they check their stuff, then I drop off the car and meet them back there to check my bags. I don't think the sky caps will check my bags without me being there with the rest of the group.

Count up the total number of bags to be checked. On SW, two bags fly free per passenger so you might be able to have the rest of your group check your bags if the total number works out, assuming this is all family members flying together. When DW and I fly together on SW with just two checked bags and we're not using RAC, we use the kiosk to print boarding passes for both of us and I then manage the bag check-in while DW camps out and watches our carry on bags.

Drop your party curbside .... return rental car to Return Check In .....

Pay $ 5 ( Note only ) for Luggage Cart ( They are there ) .. Then load / push your own

luggage into terminal.
