We are starting to plan our trip for next Aug/Sept. I remember from our last trip that I booked a rental car a year in advance and got a good rate. I have just started checking and the prices are thru the roof.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I can get a discount code or coupon??
We would prefer to use National or Avis since they are right there in the airport terminal.
Any ideas where I can get a good rate?
Thanks for any advice!!!

if you have an entertainment card there are discounts for national avis budget(budget is on site at the airport I find they are very easy to work with and the cars are on site at the airport). I heard you can get discounts with a sams card. don't forget AAA, and if you are over 50 try the aarp. If you have americian air miles for only 8500 miles you can get 3 days free.

I hope this will help. If I can help anymore please let me know.

Christine,
I ran into the same problem while trying to book a minivan for next July. There are no coupons that I know of that do not expire before my visit.

I ended up booking thru National using my EA membership. I got what I think is a pretty good rate ($199.99 per week/ $33.99 per day) with a $33.60 discount for being an EA member. I'm keeping the ressie for now and I'll try to add coupons codes later. National allows you to modify an existing ressie and you may even be able to apply more than one coupon to it.

My advise would be to book the best possible rate that you can for right now and keep checking back for better rates. The last time I checked National, a minivan for the same week that I was looking at is now over $300 for the week and $45 per day! I already feel as if I've gotten a bargain.

Here are two websites that I use for discounts/codes:

rentalcars.com

traveldepot.net

Good luck!

We found a great rate on a rental car @ SouthWest Airlines web page. We wound up getting better airfare through Continental, but you can still book a car through their site w/out booking air too. The absolute BEST rates I've seen online!

www.southwest.com

Hope this helps!

ineedpixiedust, Thank you for the heads up on rental cars through the Southwest web site. I have been trying all the different codes from the Mousesavers site for the past 1 1/2 hours and the best base rate I could get for our upcomig Dec. trip was $175.00:( . On the Southwest site I got a base rate of $142.00:) , when you add all the taxes it brings it up to $179 which is actually a $40.00 savings from the $220.00 we would have been paying!!!!

Thanks, Cheryl

You're welcome!! I've never had to shop for a rental car before and couldn't believe how expensive it is!!  My mom actually stumbled on the Southwest site. Glad it helped and have fun!!:teeth:
