we are renting a car from orlando airport for a week. i know there are many companies there. does anyone have any suggestions on one of the easiest company to deal with? also, i don't need to purchase all the extra insurance that they try to sell you - any suggestions on a company that is the easiest to work with?

Most of them are easy to work with at MCO - assuming that you join the customer loyalty program. Most of these programs are free and you provide the company with your information (license number, name and address, credit card number and preferences) up front. You don't get charged for the rental until you drop it off (most companies, though, to place a "hold" on the card for some amount of money when you pick up the car) unless you choose to pre-pay - some companies offer a discounted price for pre-pays. In exchange for all that customer data you're generally allowed to skip the reservation line in the airport and head over to the garage to pick up the car that you reserved online prior to your trip. In the garage you either go to the rental company's booth or directly to the aisle where your car awaits and hand off the paperwork as you drive away. A few of the rental companies charge to join their programs but you may be able to avoid a sign-up fee for at least some of them by using the enrollment forms at Mousesavers. I think that National is one of those that charges but has a free enrollment deal for Mousesavers users. I think that Hertz charges, too, but there are usually free offers at Mousesavers.

I like using a major company - National, Dollar, Budget, Enterprise have all worked well for us with a strong preference for National and Dollar. All of those companies have cars right at the airport so pick-up is really easy. Hertz, Avis, Thrifty and Alamo have cars in the airport garages as well. Lesser known rental companies E-Z Rental, Advantage and L&M are located at the airport, too.

We always use Priceline for our car. They ONLY deal with companies IN THE TERMINAL, never a shuttle and wasted time that comes with it. As mentioned by the PP, be certain to join their club, it makes things much smoother. We've used a number of them without any problems.

We just rented from Fox, they are new just opened a couple months ago. We did have to take a shuttle to pick up the car but it was a breeze, no issues or waiting. And I got the grand opening special rate of $17.99/day for a 5-day midsize rental. The car was brand new and the service was so great we will definitely be using them again. None of the hassle of Hertz (I'm a Marriot silver and they still always give me problems!) It depends on if you are willing to take the shuttle and what time you are flying in. We landed at 8:30pm on a Tuesday night and the place was empty, even the reservation desks in the rental car area there was just not a crowd at that time. I have had to deal with waiting in lines at the car rental places and it takes them just about the same amount of time to wait in the line, check in, sign the paperwork and go through the insurance sales pitch and then have them get the car....JMO but Fox was really worth it they didn't push for insurance or any extras.

glad to hear about the positive experience with Fox. I have a rental coming up with them and was nervous because I had never heard of them before.

I just recently (4/29-5/6) rented from Advantage rental car. They are in terminal and so are there cars.I rented 2 mid sized cars for only$108 each. This company is owned by Hertz but a lot cheaper.

I rented a car through hotwire.com and got a great deal with Hertz, which is right in the terminal. If you wait until a week or two before you leave you can get rock bottom prices. I think we paid something ridiculous like $9/day. Everything went real smooth, and we didn't purchase any extra insurance. The car actually ended up getting dented and scratched in a parking lot while we were there and they never said anything to us about it when we dropped it off. We were nervous, but it wasn't an issue.

I used Alamo they were ez to deal with....as crazy as it sounds I only rented it for a few hours to go to walmart and stock up on snacks and drinks cux we flew, then I had Mears transportation take us to the hotel, we were offsite.... worked out great though
