rent or transfer

You "rent" a reservation and you transfer points.

Non-member (or even members) can have member make a reservation for them using points. The member who owns the points maintains full control over the reservation until the moment the person using the reservation checks in.

When points are transferred from one member to another member (you must be a member to get a points transfer), the points belong to the second member as soon as the transfer is complete. The points retain their use year and resort, but they are now the property of the second member. Members can transfer once a year either in or out of their contract.

Both operations require a call to Member Services to make the transaction.

What happens if you have points transferred to your account from another
resort or do you just have to get points for the resort you own? If they are from another resort does that mean you can't make your reservations 11 months out? If you rent points to someone else and make a reservation do you make it in your own name or in their name? We are considering buying a new contract with 160 points at SSR and we only go to Disney every other year or every 3 years so we may not need all our points and in the beginning we may have to rent points.

you can get points transferred from any resort but they (are supposed to) maintain their resort identity...if you get OKW pts transferred in, you can only reserve OKW at 11 months but not BCV.

if you rent to someone else, you make the reservation in their name. (but if they trash the room, you may still be legally liable.)

If you don't go to Disney at least once a year, you really might want to question your purchase of DVC points. Either that or purchase a smaller resale with fewer points that you can combine every three years.

Less points will not work due our family size. We will have to borrow points
from 2 or3 years now. I was just wondering how hard & safe it is to rent out
or transfer points for the years down the road if we have extra points?

Transfer are already difficult with members being limited to one a year. I have one small contract and one larger one. I tranfer from the smaller to the larger or vice versa. That uses up my one transfer a year for both contracts. I doubt that many members would be willing to use up their one transfer a year for a small amount of points.

Also, there is not supposed to be any compensation for transfers according to the Public Offering Statement.

There are several post, one very current, about renting points.
