My choice is Palo brunch. But, then, we've only done Palo dinner and brunch. The extra cost for Remy is beyond our comfort zone.We only plan on doing 1 meal without our children. Which would you choose and why? We are casual people and not big on "fancy meals" if that helps. Lol
We had the same experience with upgraded courses. Our final bill was outrageous...but that caviar upgrade was the best dish of the evening! We're planning on skipping Remy next time.If you're not big on "fancy", I would steer clear of Remy and definitely do Palo. If you've never done either the sticker shock at Remy's can be pretty crazy. We chose a couple of "upgraded" courses and I won't even tell you how much our final check was. When DH ordered the Matsuzaka beef instead of what was on their menu and that alone was a $100 upgrade as I recall. He didn't realize at the time it was extra (were you LISTENING, DH?? Obviously not....*sigh*). And they had a black truffle season special chef's menu that would have been $250 EXTRA per person over the regular uncharge. Yikes!! I mean, I know truffles are like gold but wow.
We though Remy was lovely and for certain one of the fanciest and definitely our priciest meal EVER for just the 2 of us. I said, "It's back to Palo for us!", which we love. Palo is also lovely but not so pretentious and not nearly as pricey. DH and I travel a lot and we think the food and service at Palo are excellent. Have fun!
I've never felt "hovered" over. Yes, they are there to assist you, but I don't find it intrusive.Palo is fancy, but not as fancy as Remy. However, I will pick Remy every time because I find it so incredibly uncomfortable when the Palo servers hover over you at the buffet.

Interesting. I've been to Italy but never to a buffet there.Well, maybe I just got unlucky then, because they followed us around the little alcove, (over)explaining what various items were even though they were clearly labeled, and kept trying to serve us as we were reaching to serve ourselves. It was way too much attention to the point of being annoying.
I have seen a few other people here make the same observation, though it seems to vary from ship to ship. Maybe this is how they do buffets in Italy, and I'm just an uncouth American who doesn't know better?
Perhaps there was a nori-virus scare on that cruise that made them change their usual procedure?
Thank you for all the suggestions. We are opting for Palo brunch. Sounds like Remy is something we wouldn't enjoy especially for the price.
