I have been thinking about starting this thread for days, and then when SnoWhite posted, I really got the bug to do it. I was hoping the 'oldies' of pin trading would share some of what they remember from the beginning of pin trading. I know many of the PTV's (Pin Trading Veterans) are on the cruise, but they will catch up, those rotten people leaving us on dry land!!!!!!!

Anyway

Remember when
A Limited Edition pin of 5,000 was MAJORLY difficult to obtain? If you were at the park that day, you had to be there for the opening or you missed out. If you were trading for it, better bring some extra big traders!

Remember how difficult it was to trade for all the POM from WDW in 2000? And how they changed the edition sizes through out the series and totally messed up those poor folks wanting the whole set?

Remember how coveted the E Ticket pins where?

anyone else?

Since I am JUST back to pin trading I'm not too sure how different it is now, other than the fact that there were LE 1500's sitting on the shelves at Disneyland the entire 4 days we were there and that would never have happened "in the old days".

I do remember when you had to be at the part at opening to get the LE 5000's before they sold out. Craziness I tell you!

But then again, I've decided I want to collect Stitch pins and I don't ever remember character pins going for so much money. I have been looking up Stitch on ebay and some of the pins are going for $300-400! Now that is crazy. I guess I'll have to stick with the easier to find ones so we can pay our rent :)

I'd love to hear how it's changed though, so if you guys have any tips for me let me know. Remember, I've been gone for about 2 years!

Yesterday, I saw a post over on Dizpins about someone who was talking about how the lanyards aren't that great, mostly DS pins and rack pins, but every once in a while you will find something good like he got a complete Propin set.

I remember when finding a German propin was something special, I also remember the fights over whether trading Propins with CMs was a good or bad thing, after Cheappins started selling them and flooding the market.

It's a reminder that time will take care of any perceived inequity, time for things to disappear, time for new people to join, time for people to reexamine their focus.

I remember Lisa, too. Mainly because 2 years ago I lived in Bellingham, but as a couple months ago I'm now I'm in Arizona.

I didn't even have one pin book, and I certainly didn't have an extra little book. :smooth:

I had no hope of getting a pin short of bidding on it on eBay.

I could go through all the pages on Pinpics in just a couple of hours.

I didn't have pinpals. . .
. . . who would pick up a pin for me. :D
. . . with whom to spend endless hours of fun trading and schmoozing. :p
. . . who would be there for me when I just need a pal. :teeth:

Oh my Robyn.....let me tell you.....I found a print out I had made of ALL the PINS on Pinpics for my Oct 2000 Trip. It had maybe 2500 pins!!!!!!!!! and now we are at numbers in the 26,000 WOW

Question too.........what is the usual number of pins they make for a rack pin? I found a pin from 2000 that was LE of 20,000 .......can you imagine that NOW.......we would ROTF laughing for days!

Remember when the words "holy grail" referred to one pin, THE HOLY GRAIL...aka WDW PTP??

Remember when you found the DIS and the Collector's Board and realized there were other people out there who who liked pins?

Remember how cool it was the first time you walked around the parks and saw other people you knew?

Remember when you got your first pin bag? Do you still have it?

Remember when you made your first trade?

Remember when you thought $8.50 was alot of money for a pin?

Remember when the household finances didn't include a pin budget?

Remember when you realized it was about more than pins?

Hasn't it been a great ride? ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ?

Back in 1992, at the First Disneyana Convention, JudySue found some people who were interested in trading pins and buttons. This was in the lobby of the Contemporary Hotel. The group was dispersed by Security for obstructing traffic!:duck:
