I am really looking forward to watching this series, it starts tonight. Also on Oprah today they will cover it as she and Gayle spent a couple of days there as well. This is from the TV guide website....

Colonial House
A New World; Harsh Reality
120 mins.

Debut: Time travelers from the 21st century start a 17th-century colony in coastal Maine from scratch (almost) in this four-part series. As it opens, it's 1628 and 25 men, women and children are sailing for the colony they'll call home for five months. It's cold and damp on-board, but they'll have to get used to that. They'll also have to get used to illness, having to go to the bathroom in the woods and dealing with Native Americans. And they must get used to backbreaking work (“Every minute,” moans one woman---and she's the governor's wife). It must be smart work, too. “We must get beyond just surviving the day,” admits the governor, and that means planting maize. But soon a tragedy hits and the colonists lose their focus.

I will have to watch this. I've watched all the other "house" series and I love them. I didn't even know a new one was coming out. Woohoo!

I'm excited about this, too. I loved the 1900 house!

I'm sure I'll love this. I loved 1900s House, 1940s House and Manor House (all from the UK) and Frontier House. Really shows you "the good old days" were really pretty difficult.

Cool, thanks!! I didn't know about this but I'll have to try and catch it!

I have been waiting for this.::yes:: ::yes::

Thanks for posting! I really like the other ones, especially the victorian era one.

I LOVED Frontier HOuse and have been excited for Colonial House to air!! Should be a great series!

*LOL*

Oprah: "Panties, the women wore no panties..." I keep hearing this commercial over & over this morning on the radio!!

I want to see this too, as I enjoyed the others in this series. Since it's up against AI tonight, I may have to catch it another time.

*LOL*

Calm down, Monkeyboy!! Just take a look at the underwear women used to wear before you get to "excited!;) :p

This sounds just like my kind of program. Maybe I should contact the producers of the series and see if I can get a cameo. Every colonial village needs a town crier.

 What is all this talk about underwear??? I love these series! I already have it ready to tape.

Aren't they on PBS?

I'll be watching too! I saw Oprah today...looks like a very hard life. Why DO I complain??!!

So what did y'all think?

I thought it was off to a pretty good start. I felt so sorry for the girl whose family had to leave (I won't mention why in case someone hasn't seen it yet).

Really drove home just how hard life was back then.

I only saw about 1/2 hr of it, and it was truly amazing. I am taping the whole series and I think on rainy days in summer I will watch it with DS.

I think that it's an interesting experiment, but, as one particpant mentioned, there really isn't any incentive to work hard. If this were truly the 1600's, those people would have been scrambling to survive. Instead, they all have the option to walk away. Back to the "real" world of the 21st century.

I missed the first 30 minutes of the first show, but caught it when it was rerun at 10PM. Even though I think that the concept of the show is somewhat flawed, I will most likely continue to watch the show. Perhaps I can pick up a few pointers for the next Yankee Peddler Festival. I liked the colonial dancing.
