Remanufactured ink?

Anyone ever used remanufactured ink for their printer? I noticed a store (4inkjets) has 10pts/$ on the SW rapid rewards shopping site. I haven't ever used remanufactured ink cartridges so I'm wondering what their performance is like.

My father owns a business selling remanufactured cartridges for both laser and ink printers for the last 25 years and I used to work at a different company that did the same. Generally the company has a moneyback guarantee on them if they don't work. Anyway, we very very rarely had ones come back. I think it's a great option to get it for cheaper, honestly.

Recently purchased some from a seller on amazon for my Epsom. 10 cartridges (4 black, 2 yellow, 2 blue, 2 red) for $20. (Got it on Prime so no shipping). I had no issues replacing the ones I needed (black and blue), but my printer gave me an error that I am not using genuine cartridges. When my yellow went out and I replaced it, the replacement would not register...I had to open the other one.

All in all, I am pleased with the performance of the ink. I don't know if the "faulty" one will be able to be installed and work at another time. I figure the faulty is for the trash.

With the remanufactured, I can not use my ink reader so when it runs out, I will not get a warning.

I am pleased I saved for the budget. Unsure if we will use them as the primary ink suppy.

I had different experiences with remanufactured toner cartridges, depending on the supplier, and how much care they took with their process. I have an older Brother multifunction printer. After I had to clean splattered red toner from a remanufactured cartridge out of the inside of the printer, I went back to the brand name cartridges. I did change my supplier, found an online shop that delivers to my house and charges less than the local brick and mortar shops.

There are plenty of businesses that sell them and, of course, will say that they are harmless, but you will find plenty of anecdotes to the contrary. The fact is that the ink catrridges are meant to be disposable and the nozzles (for inkjet) are not designed to last forever. If I were a company and I sold disposable cartridges, I would not invest any cash in hardware that would last any longer than they had to.

I've bought refilled ink before and some worked fine, and I've also had to replace a printer because it stopped reading any cartridges (even brand new ones) after a faulty replacement.

For inkjet printers, you'll save maybe $20 on a pair of cartridges, which I wouldn't consider worth it. If you've got a cheap throwaway printer then you don't really have much to lose, but if you own a several hundred dollar photo printer, I wouldn't put anything but OEM parts in it.

Thank you all so much for the tips and experiences. I think for this big FE printing job I will bite the bullet and either use manufacturers ink or try to have them printed at Kinkos or somewhere like that. I'm sure we will try remanufactured at some point but this probably isn't a good time for that. I can just imagine some catastrophe at the last minute while madly rushing to finish FEs. ::scared::

Another thing to keep in mind is that if your printer is fairly new, using refilled cartridges or non-manufacturer cartridges will void your warranty.

I always buy HP printers and I always use HP ink.

Not an answer to what you asked but get a laser printer. They are a little more up front but a lot cheaper to run. I haven't bought ink in almost 10 years. I don't print a ton and have bought three laser toner cartridges in that time. Even color laser printers have come down in price a lot. My Mom was spending $50 a month on ink and I got her to switch to laser and now she spends that about every six months if that. It is ridiculous how much cheaper it is. Not to mention the quality and speed is much better.

There's really no reason to have a photo printer anymore since so many places will print your digital pictures for much cheaper than you can do it yourself.
