Reincarnation?

I find reincarnation absolutely fascinating.

There was a show on the History Channel International called 'Science of the Soul' which talked about a case of reincarnation. A boy's parents thought he was a reincarnated World War II pilot. I tried finding it on youtube, but it wasn't on there. There are other videos about it though:

In the History channel show, at one point during the conversation with the boy's parents, his father said that when his son was like 4 or 5, he had told his dad that he "knew he picked the right dad when he chose him" and he even described the hotel that his parents were staying at when they had decided they wanted to have children.

The boy had also named his GI Joe dolls after the three people that 'greeted him in heaven', who the parent's later found out were 3 friends of the World War II pilot and those men had died before he did.

Its all based on feelings. There's no logic to this at all. I've read everything written here and I used to be fascinated with this stuff, so I'm not completely clueless. It was amazing to me how everyone who thought they were reincarnated came from some fascinating past life.

Pocket Guide to the Afterlife (Jason Boyett, 2009) is an interesting book about the afterlife in general. One of the things it talks about is reincarnation. But I think the book is a little much for an 8 year old.

Maybe a fascinating prior life would be more likely to jog memories. I could see that a mundane or even unhappy life wouldn't stand out.

Not that I really believe all of this. I think that there is likely some element of truth in the various beliefs but we really don't have the complete answer.

Actually, if you look at the well-documented cases, almost all of them are of very ordinary everyday people living ordinary lives. I can't think of single case in which a person remembered being someone famous. Of course, you'll always come across the occasional person who isists he/she was the reincarnation of Cleopatra or Shakespeare, but I'm talking about cases in which there is actual evidence to suggest that the person is remembering a past life, ie James Leninger (sp?).

....... But if there is such a thing I hope I come back as an extremely attractive brunette woman about 5'10", 120lbs, long legs, and beautiful blue eyes.... :rotfl2:

I would like to come back as a champion race horse. I could run really fast for 4 or 5 times a year and then retire to stud! :woohoo:

OK. So, people are so much smarter and wiser when they die that they are able to choose the parents and/or life situation that they need to grow? And they can see the future to know what those parents will be like. This takes a lot of faith.

I used to work at a living history site, and although I enjoyed it and found it fascinating, some of the people I worked with were really into their jobs. Meaning, they would go home (from their slightly better than minimum wage positions) and work on hobbies that were also related to historical reenactment. I'll never forget my (male, late-thirties) boss asking me if I wanted to join their after work period clothing sewing circle. Not only that, but some were strongly attached to certain periods of time. The 1890's folks really didn't enjoy working at the 1760's house, and vice-versa. One couple had put together a long proposal for the employers in the hope that they might be allowed to bring their new baby (the woman was pregnant) to work and raise him or her 19th century style. It was denied for insurance reasons. The point is, I was working there, these people wanted to live in a different time period. Like it made more sense to them than modern times.

I always wondered if any of them thought they might have been reincarnated.

I've met people like that. I was at a historic farm a few months ago and spent quite a bit of time talking to a retired man who said he spent most of the year working at the farm for free. He and his wife lived in a motorhome on the property and I could tell that he just adored all of the old style cooking and sewing and farming and all the rest of it.

Who knows, maybe there is some reason a person like him would be so attracted to a time and lifestyle.

Since I have no memories of a previous life, I don't believe in reincarnation. And if it is true but I have no memories, what good does it do me?

I don't believe in reincarnation. What I believe is that some people, especially children, are very sensitive to the energies of people who have died and when they sense those energies which hold the details of the persons life, they feel it so strongly that they believe it's them. It's a form of extrasensory perception, in my opinion. And the fact that it mostly happens with children adds to my belief because children are so open to accept what they're seeing/feeling, since they haven't had time to be influenced by other things in life that block out that special extra sense. So the body dies, the soul moves on to heaven or whatever is the reuniting place with God, but the extraneous energy remains here, at least for a while. Just my own belief.
