I do believe in reincarnation; however I'm not entirely sure we all reincarnate. Most of the stories you hear about those who remember past lives are from people who died very young. It could be that those who didn't get an opportunity to live a full live are given another chance. Or - it could just be that we all reincarnate, but somehow the trauma of dying young lends itself to easier recall in the next life.
I don't believe humans can come back as animals; however one hypothesis I've entertained is that the souls of lower level life forms may combine to be reincarnated into a single higher life form. For example, 100 ants may come back as one frog. Then 100 frogs to a dog. And dogs to people, etc. Crazy thought, I know, but it makes a weird kind of sense to me. I don't necessarily believe that's what happens, it's just one of many strange thoughts that have come me while pondering the mysteries of the universe
Yep, I agree with this. I don't believe for a second that a human comes back as a gerbil or tadpole and so on, so forth.

... that does raise the question if we get to choose or if something in one life has any influence on the next. I'm not sure how I would want to come back, but I'll have to start thinking of some good options just in case.
