Regis and Kelly: Nothing more than a BIG Disney Commercial

We were in the MK yesterday during the show. It was annoying at best.

Several CMs need to return to customer service school. I had to remind them that I was paying to see the MK and the attractions there and could care less about the TV show - if I wanted to stand on the corner of Main Street while my DW shopped, I would do so.

One CM indicated that because of the crowds and the location of the stage area (right around the flagpole) they had to keep people moving.

I suggested an alternate location for the stage - Bay Lake. At least that got a laugh from the CM.

I know where others are coming from completely. I know that Disney is promoting itself and that MORE people will come to the parks because of the advertisement than not. However, I think there are ways to do the same thing without severely inconveniencing the "magic" for the paying guests there.

If I was told I couldn't wait outside on Main St. and relax and just enjoy the Disney atmosphere, I would be upset because I'm not made of money and would feel like I'm not getting my money's worth.

I think it would be a GREAT experience for those that get into the whole "live show" thing and love Regis and Kelly. However I work in the television business and to me it's just not a big deal, and it's not to ALOT of people. To people like us going to get away, I just dont think it's a great looking sight to walk in the park and told not to stop walking and have to avoid the set.

I know it would never happen but was thinking the same thing about the stage being in Bay Lake.

Another cool location they could do it, so they could still see the MK and Castle and not be in everyone's way would be to do it on top of the contemporary on the observation deck.

Well whether you disagree with the "point" or not is fine, however, if you "dont know" the point, then you obviously have not been reading.

I sat right behind gary sinese on ellen's adventure, maybe they figured loading a bunch of people with regis would be hard as its a small space and would have taken more time away from the waiting guest if people were asking for pictures etc.
Ive seen much better regis WDW shows, I wasnt pleased at how they were making a fuss over their mickey coffee cups.

Yes, this is true, but Regis and Kelly is shown on WGN in Chicago.
Regis and Kelly is a syndicated program that is produced by Touchstone Television. It's on ABC in some markets, but not all.

Again with the "paying guests." You never answered my question from an earlier post. I often sign friends and family in or give them comp passes to visit WDW. They are not "paying" guests. Should they, then, stand aside and let the "paying" guests to the FP machines or onto the rides first, since they did not pay for their tickets? And if so, how do they determine who paid for their tickets vs. who did not? Should guests walk around with their receipts around their neck on lanyards so that people with free tickets know to step aside?

Are your friends riding every ride by themselves?

Do you have first hand accounts of paying guests being inconvenienced that Disney didn't do something for them while waiting to ride?

No they're not, but let's go there. Say that some of the people in line when Regis is riding the ride by himself are people who have comp tickets from friends or who were signed in by a CM. They did not pay for their tickets. Does that mean it's okay for them to wait, because they're not paying guests, but that the people who paid shouldn't have to wait? I'm just trying to figure out where you draw your line.

Here's another scenario -- you've got a Give Kids the World kid and his family visiting the parks on their one-time family trip. These kids get VIP status, and are often -- for the child's own comfort and safety -- back-doored into rides. They are also allowed to ride alone with their family on certain rides or take a second turn on certain rides. Should they also be denied those privileges in lieu of paying guests?

While I am one who finds it amusing and at times annoying when someone says a thing negative about Disney and then gets flamed....this time I find I'm on the other side.

I just returned from 5 days at Disney. I saw them setting up in MK for the show, but didn't return yesterday to see what was up . (had I started my AP this trip, I would have gone over to see if I could get on TV HA!!!! but I wasn't willing to pay a day's admission to try!..

Anyhow: the parks have been beautifully devoid of crowds. I haven't even had to use a fastpass. I went to MGM for one hour and did TOT, RnR twice and caught the last half of Beauty and The Beast ...in an hour!!!!!!! The standby line wait said 5 minutes, but it was less than that. No lines in Epcot for Mission Space. Rode everything I wanted to ride between end of Wishes and closing (midnight) at MK...longest wait was Peter Pan.

My point: I doubt any 'paying customer' was frustrated by having to give up a few minutes so that Regis could ride TOT alone.

Haven't watched the show and don't plan to, but I agree that the point of the show is to advertise the current movie or show that the guests are plugging.

I met the greatest people this trip, my first as a DVC owner. I traded for a bunch of pins and that was super fun, I gave out a lot of the appreciation cards that I downloaded from the tagrel.com site, I met one of the disboarders who was traveling solo and we did some rides at AK together.
On the negative side: due to having to write and file some legal papers yuck while I was onsite (6 hours worth of missing out on disney ), and while my family was causing a lot of stress over Mother's Day, and while another Disboarder who offered to share his Wishes cruise stood me up on my first night there...no cruise, no return phone call to my cell.............Disney couldn't have done anything to make my visit more magical.

And that is all I'm going to say about that.

we go to disney often and usually when the park is not crowded and we have on numerous ocasions rode pooh, peterpan, buzz, more than once.....
we have also hit the rapids at animal kingdom first thing when they open and my hubbie has ridden 8 times in a row with the kids ( i myself threw in teh towel at 2 and we are not the kind to cover up my boys like to get WET!!!!) You can only imagine the faces of people who saw them getting off the finak time who thought that was how wet they get in just 1 ride.... :rotfl:
I see nothing wrong with kelly stayong on a ride with her kids she probobly was witha guide/security and was on a limited time schedule to spend with her kids and they maybe only had time to do a few rides I say more power to her.....

"I really really really really can't stand Kelly Ripa. Its like watching an SNL parody of a morning show. (morning latte...will ferrel and cheri oteri.... :rotfl: )She's so STUPID. (yet smart, because she (along with Jessica Simpson and Pamela Anderson) is totally profiting over the whole blonde ditz thing, When i act this way, my boyfriend just roles his eyes :confused3 )"

I had to laugh. :rotfl: Watching Kelly Ripa makes me long for Kathie Lee :earseek:! Boy what a royal pain in the a_ _ Kelly is . The blonde ditz thing is soooo tiresome. That is probably why I 've only seen Regis and Kelly a few times. Hopefully, they'll get rid of her and promote a new co-host. Of course, I'd better watch what I pray for- maybe we'll end up with Pamela or Jessica!!!!

I haven't seen a single episode of Regis and Kelly, but my mom has been watching it every day. And you know what? She's never been to Disney and now she's so excited about our trip in December. She was able to see Disney all week long and now she's talking about which rides she wants to ride, which attractions she wants to see. I tried to get her the DVD, but she didn't pay much attention while watching it. I guess she relates more to Regis and Kelly.

As for the celebrity issue, how is Regis going on ToT any different than a honeymooning couple getting their own boat on Maelstrom or the Mexico ride? I know when we went to Disney for our honeymoon, we were allowed to go on several rides BY OURSELF. Nobody in line complained about it at all, in fact, they all said congratulations. I like the fact that the CMs go out of their way to make people feel good and I like the fact that the vast majority of Disney visitors don't get upset with silly things like having celebrities/honeymooners go on rides by themselves.

Not all celebrities ride the rides by themselves. In fact, most of them wait in line like everybody else and get on the packed cars like everybody else. A rare few get the VIP treatment, and 95% of those are treated that way for security reasons.

Oddly enough. After I said i didnt like Kelly. I ended up meeting her this weekend. Karma.... She was nice... not ditzy at all in person. See... its an act

While you might not rip off Johnny Depp's clothes if you saw him in public, i'm willing to. pirate: So Disney has to protect him from people like me. So he and other celebs get to ride alone for their safety.

I just spit out my Coke at that! hahahaha Luckily I am home alone right now or people might wonder what has me cracking up!

Thanks for the giggle!

Personally i do have a problem with the fact that PAYING individuals are in the parks waiting for a ride and a celebrity gets to stop the attraction to ride BY HIMSELF.

To play devil's advocate...if the ride HAD been filled with PAYING individuals that wanted to go on the ride then they would have had to get every single one of those people that would have shown up in what was shown to sign a release form before they would've been able to SHOW it, then you get 2 people that are next in line that say "no I'm not signing it", ok now you have to wait until the next group to see if you can get everyone in that group to sign the release form because god forbid you ask the 2 at the front of the line that don't want to sign the release form to wait until the next run, that wouldn't be right. You see what I'm getting at here? It's far easier and far faster to just not put anybody else on for ONE run of the ride. If they couldn't show the stuff they did at TOT what would be the point in them being there and advertising Disney World?

And by the way, whoever said what about those people that will book a trip BECAUSE of seeing Regis on the TOT? You are bang on! While I've always WANTED to go to Disney after watching DisneyLand and then Disney World all week on the Regis and Kelly show I REALLY wanted to go and now am in the beginning planning stages for my very first trip to WDW  .

I don't think so, since they're out in public. Otherwise everyone who walks into the park while R & K are there would have to sign a release since they might end up on camera!

Just a quick reply (and forgive me if this has been mentioned) but yes, Disney owns ABC but Regis and Kelly are on NBC. they don't own that right?
