:thumbsup2 Though come to think of it, I haven't worn jeans in a long time - probably 3 years? Jeans are too casual for work, and when I'm not at work I'm usually in shorts, or if I'm going out I wear capris or black stretch pants. Jeans are for travel to colder climates. My girlfriends who do wear jeans wear cute sandals (usually with heels) or boot-cut shoes.

We've had a big stink at work, they imposed a dress code about 4 months ago, no jeans for most folks. We got a new boss from another state who apparently doesn't realize in California, jeans are fine office wear. Well, that boss left, the temporary managers in between reaffirmed the dress code, and a new boss started this week, we'll have to see what happens.
The issue is, about 6 years ago they started combining a lot of jobs, or expecting folks to cross over. I may be behind a desk for 8 hours one day, and out pulling cable on a propane tanker fire the next. I've ruined 3 pairs of slacks since the dress code went into effect. Their solution, keep a change of clothes at work. Problem is, when you want me out the door NOW on a breaking news story, I don't have time to change.
As for shoes, sandals and flip flops are the only prohibited shoes. Safety issue, which is why they probably never can ban sneakers or tennis shoes. Too many hazards in the work place, things to trip on, slippery and uneven surfaces.

Natural gas is what we use here, too, for heat, hot water, and stoves. And a lot of homes just use electricity with no other kind of fuel. I think I've seen propane tanks. They're usually big silver cylindrical things a few feet long, right? I only remember seeing them out in the country.

I've never seen a heating oil tank that I know of, but I guess what I thought was propane could be a heating oil tank.

It is very easy to spot the tourists - they wear sneakers/tennis shoes with jeans or khakis. Sneakers are only for the gym/exercise - they are not part of an everyday wardrobe.

We live in the Chicago suburbs and my husband only wears sneakers....even to work....so not just for tourists :lmao:

Also, when I'm a tourist and doing lots of walking, I usually bring my gym shoes....don't wear them everyday, I do like nicer shores but I do more in winter.

I didn't realize I was such a fashion faux pas....
My feet dictate what shoes I wear... ;)

I say Pop not soda. (don't drink coke so never say "I'll have a coke).
Couch, not sofa.
Dinner at lunch time a lot of them time.
Milk, not Melk...

I guess I am "classic tourist" most of the time with my shorts, tennis shoes and socks ;) (I do NOT wear a fanny pack).

Yes. Oil tanks generally look a little different but they are similar.

Thanks for the images, golfgal. So snowplows are just regular trucks with a kind of attachment on the front. Makes sense.

Usually--there are some that they use on country roads that look more like a combine with a plow on the front. . I was trying to find a picture of one but didn't (but I didn't look that hard either :lmao:). Most snow plows for city use are bigger, dump trucks though Many people that do snow removal in the winter (often lawn guys in the summer months) have a pick-up truck with a plow attachment too.

The plow part is the actual blade on front of the truck. Many of my friends have personal ones for on their quads or trucks.

As to what people wear with jeans - shoes! Work boots, loafers, regular shoes, and ballet flats, heels, boots, flip flops... sneakers are def. the way less popular option. If you went out and watched 100 jean-wearing people I'd guess 10 of them maybe would have sneakers.

.

Thats so funny because here loafers with jeans is just dorky! If you look at 100 people wearing jeans in the cooler months 90+ would have sneakers on...in the summer it would be half sneakers half flip flops..... and crocs just look silly with ANY kind of clothes!

It's WisKAHNsin. ;)

Oops - I spelled it right a couple of words down.:)

I have to add - it'd sure be nice to know where people are from when reading this thread. Maybe those who don't have their location listed can give us a hint?

Typical snowblower for home use

This is a snowplow that you typically see here in a city to do city streets--usually with sand or de-icer in the back so it sands after it plows

Thanks for depressing me. I am so not ready to see those. After our last never ending winter, I am hoping for a nice looooooooooong fall!:lmao:

I think flip flops or heals look ridiculous with jeans personally :lmao::lmao: Jeans are casual, heals are NOT. Flip flops are summer attire, jeans are not. :lmao:

Crocks look adorable on little kids

If we get snow like last year this year, DH will be getting one of those red shiny toys posted above :lmao::lmao:

Oh man....I would never go without one!!! Our unfortunately is getting older, I hope it lasts at least another winter.

DH wants to get a blade for the 4 wheeler. Just another excuse to play with his toys!!!:rotfl:

Don't forget you can also get a plow for your riding lawn mower to remove snow at home! We have a riding lawn mower, but no plow.

We also have drive thru's, which are as DH described convienient stores you can drive thru the middle of the building to get your snacks. They are very popular here. I am assuming it is so you do not have to get out of your car when it is cold out. So when you say you are going to the drive thru you have to clarify, what you are talking about, convienent store or resturant lol.

For the poster from Indiana with the list, several of those apply to where I live as well. When I was in HS people in the town I lived in drove their cars to Burger King to hang out in the parking lot, during warm months of course.

Oh I agree with that-- heals really look stupid with jeans!

To each their own, but a little heal and nice jeans look way better than jeans and tennis shoes IMHO. More people wear heels with jeans than tennis shoes, I say they can't all be wrong. And are in the fashion mags. In fact I can't think of anyone that I know of that wears tennis shoes with jeans. Definite fashion no no, old and matronly. But wear what you want.

Again another gross generalization but I think lots of people on the west coast wear sneakers with just about everything. After all the PNW is home to the shorts wool socks sandals look so high fashion isn't usually a consideration. DW and I both work in the medical field and we wear sneakers to work and everywhere else. If it's a fashion crime to be comfortable than come take us away.
