He was a defensive end for Green Bay and Philadelphia in the past. Age 43. Massive heart attack.

Thoughts and prayers for his family.

I have got to get that Cholesterol medication! Both my parents had heart attacks in thier forties! When I see someone athletic and strong like that having one it is scary!

This is so unreal about Reggie White. Wisconsinites will definately mourn his passing, especially Brett Favre and his family.

Reggie White was a true inspiration and a wonderful person.

He was a devoted man of faith who was looked up to as first a Philadelphia Eagle and then a Green Bay Packer. We Philadelphians just loved him.

I heard him speak in the 80's at the Billy Graham Crusade here in Philly. It was right at the time when one of the Eagles was killed. He prayed with his team and the family and then came out to speak to thousands of people. A true inspiration. He was so in love with God and doing His work. It was his first priority and he was able to involve it in the game he loved so much.

My deepest sympathies to his family. They can be comforted knowing that he is being held in his Lord's loving arms and they will meet again.

So sad, he was such a classy guy. :sad2:

No, not really. I guess you don't remember all those dumb, racist remarks he made about Mexicans and Asians. It was a NATIONAL story. He may have been a good guy at heart, but that was nowhere near classy.

He was vehmently against homosexuality, which is his right, and ok for him to feel that way, but he denigrated homosexuals in speeches all the time.

FAR, FAR, from classy.

Tremendous football player.

EDIT: Before bashing me from reading this response, read my further responses below, to get my whole opinion.

Compared to some of the guys we have in the NFL today, I still think he was a class act. He will be missed.

Why would feel the need to post such negative remarks on a thread that is supposed be in honor of a man who just passed away WAY before his time.

I think it is in very bad taste to bash a man you just died ~ you yourself need a lesson in class as far as I'm concerned.

I hope you let this go so we can get back to honoring a mans memory who touched millions of people lives with his talent and big heart.

Rest in peace Reggie, you will be missed.

Compared to Hitler he was a class act too. What does that mean? Why compare him to anybody? He spewed racist remarks in a press conference. Not classy.

Well, if you want to feel that way about a guy who spewed racist reamarks, that is certainly your option and your right. And I also recognize that he did lots of stuff in the community to help lots of people.

He was Reggie White, probably a better person than bad, and a tremendous football player.

All I am saying is that he had TWO sides to him, and let's remember that, as well.

Just came home and saw this on the news.

Reggie is one of my all time favorite Packers. I'm so sad for his family.

Here's what Reggie said for those of you who prefer to focus on the negative.... http://www.620wtmj.com/sykes/white.htm

"Well, it’s interesting to me to know why now. When you look at the black race, black people are very gifted in what we call worship and celebration. A lot of us like to dance, and if you go to black churches, you see people jumping up and down, because they really get into it.

White people were blessed with the gift of structure and organization. You guys do a good job of building businesses and things of that nature and you know how to tap into money pretty much better than a lot of people do around the world.

Hispanics are gifted in family structure. You can see a Hispanic person and they can put 20 or 30 people in one home. They were gifted in the family structure.

When you look at the Asians, the Asian is very gifted in creation, creativity and inventions. If you go to Japan or any Asian country, they can turn a television into a watch. They’re very creative. And you look at the Indians, they have been very gifted in the spirituality.

When you put all of that together, guess what it makes. It forms a complete image of God. God made us different because he was trying to create himself. He was trying to form himself, and then we got kind of knuckleheaded and kind of pushed everything aside. "

I think he went overboard with stereotypes, but I don't see this as being mean spirited or racist, IMHO.

I'd much rather remember him for helping my team win a Superbowl Championship and the positive impact he had on the Green Bay comminuty.
I feel terribly for his wife Sarah and 2 teenage kids son Jeremy and daughter Jecolia.

Rest in peace #92... :sad1: :sad1:

So sad, he was way too young... :sad1:

Noel,

Thank you very much for posting the link. First of all, let me say that it is tragic that anyone die at such a young age, and my heart goes out to his family and friends. Like all of us, Reggie had his flaws. He was a human being, imperfect as each of may be. I didn't like what he said or the context in which he said it (and, yes, it was incredibly racist--Al Campanis and Jimmy the Greek got fired for less than what Reggie said, but I do understand the spirit in which he said it, I think), but that does not diminish the really good things he did in other parts of his life that I will honor. He will be missed.
