Refuse to give Disney your Finger-print?

Sorry to bring back an old thread with a topic that has been discussed to death but I came across a blog on the Orlando Sentinel on the topic of finger scanning and for some people - a very good reason to refuse to allow Disney to scan your fingers:

The worse thing that can happen to you after a finger scan is to place that finger into your nose before washing. You could get any number of diseases. Remember, wash the scanned finger before you dip it into your nose.

It maybe some insight into those that refuse.

Peep Jousting- You take 2 marshmallow Peeps, the bunnies are great. Insert a toothpick where their Peep hands would be if they had them. Put the toothpicks in the opposite side of each peep....KWIM? So when they face, the toothpicks would not touch.

Stand them on a paper plate facing each other, with the toothpick of the opposing Peep about 1/2 inch away. Each of you has a Peep jouster (we do rounds...like the playoffs).

Put it in the microwave and fire it up!

Peeps expand when heated. So they will "move" toward each other. The first Peep to get stabbed by the other loses.

I hope this is somewhat clear.

And safety disclosure notice: Microwaved Peeps are VERY HOT.

I would like to offer a different view on why I am unwilling to give my fingerprints. I am an Australian citizen and to my knowledge have never had my fingerprints taken. I used to work at Parliament House (White House equivalent for the Americans) and they never took my print to get a security pass. I have nothing to hide in my past to incriminate me, but as an Australian I don't want another country's government to have my prints. I know it is just Disney but I don't know where my prints are going to end up. I realise that I am going to be called paranoid by most people on the board, but if any Americans here wan't to go to another country are you happy with the idea of them having your prints?

How many times did you visited the US?
The US government DEMANDS that foreigners have a pasport with all ten fingerprints in it.

Then entering the States border security takes again prints from all you fingers AND makes an iris scan from both your eyes.
Even babies need to do this.
If you refuse you will be on the next plane flying to your country.
Oh and take a look at the ESTA form. The only thing they don't want to know is when was the last time you blew your nose.

Yep, I hear ya, and I completely understand.

Some topics are beat to death day in and day out. But I have to say, you are probably THE most patient of anyone here. It can get old answering the same questions everyday, multiple times in a day. But that is what makes the DIS so great, people willing to help no matter what.

Well actual this is a very hot subject in Europe.The US government now DEMANDS that ALL the bank secrets of EVERY European is handed out to them. They want to know every move we make with our money.

I guess everyone is tired of pointing out that it ISN'T a fingerprint...it's a finger scan. There is a difference.

I also have gone on record stating my dismay over the lack of common sense that goes with the "fear" of using the scan because of the germ factor. I just cannot let my brain wrap around peoples inability to reason that the least of their concerns is that. Everything, repeat everything that anyone ever comes in contact with anywhere, anytime contains germs of one form or the other. There is no escaping it. They are on our clothes, our skin, our food, our furniture, in our air, in our water, on our carpets, TV's, Cellphones, soap, tissues, toothbrush, comb, every railing, every desk top, every keyboard, every blade of grass...everything.

What an enormous waste of time germophobia is. I can't speak for yours but my body came equipped with an immune system that is designed to deal with everyday germs, let it do it's thing. It is more effective and way less expensive than anti-everything liquids which wouldn't surprise me if it contained germs as well...at least the spout will.

As a sidenote...Yes...Robo is the most patient person I have ever encountered on the boards. Robo Rocks!

I understand the idea of being cautious with personal info/identifiers, but honestly I think the fingerprint thingy at Disney is mostly for show. As a hospital nurse who has used alcohol hand sanitizers and washed her hands probably in excess of a million times over the years, I barely HAVE a fingerprint. Every time I log on to the computers at work to chart, I have to lube up my finger with lotion just so my print is recognizable. Yet, I have no problem breezing through the finger scanner at WDW. Way earlier in the thread people were saying that family members have been successful mixing and matching tickets and don't have a problem getting in with someone else's ticket.

So if anyone is worried about it, I don't think they're getting a REAL good picture of your print anyway.

*EDIT* And yes, Robo has the patience of a saint!

lol..even if you're a wanted felon...even if you're a known terorist, the only thing the print does is verify that you are the same individual that use that ticket the last time. Your personal information is in no way connected to that ticket. Yes, you have to sign the back...but you can sign it Mickey Mouse if you want to...noone checks your ID against thre signsature.
