Refuse to give Disney your Finger-print?

In order for me to get into the US I have to have my picture taken upon arrival and have to give them my fingerprint. After having done that I don´t have a problem with Disney getting my print at all.

Yes why should the US government keep the details on visitors after they have left if it's own citizens do not want their details kept?

I'm pretty sure the government already knows your name. So if they have your finger measurement - exactly what horrible thing is going to happen? There is all sorts of our personal information "out there" every day, as many other posters have noted. If you have a bank account, credit cards, an IP address, driver's license, have ever applied for a job or been admitted to a hospital, etc. etc. The list goes on. Scanning your finger to get into Disney - which is not only protecting Disney but also YOU should you lose your ticket or have it stolen - small beans. But I guess some people just need something to get worked up about. My opinion - this whole thing is silly. Stick your finger in the thing, go into the park, and enjoy yourself! Big Brother isn't going to get you.

Oh, and to the OP - if you "don't wanna" do it, well I guess that is your choice since Disney does indeed say it is optional. But you did ask what we think..... Lucky for you this one IS optional - there sure are a lot of things I "don't wanna" do that AREN'T optional.

Here is how I look at...
When I go to Disney I give them my name, spouces name, children's names, address, phone number, and credit card information. Then I usually give them my savings to top it off. Why should I worry about a finger print/scan? Why would I care if my governement felt as a means of national security to gather finger scans...
I work for the State of Indiana and every year I have to repeat my finger printing through the State and Federal level. I have nothing to hide and if the powers that be want to get me for something...I don't think they are going to start by going to Disney and asking for my information.

You do what you feel is best for you and your family. I wont sweat the small stuff!

It's kind of funny that so many people are concerned with Disney (or a bank, etc.) taking a finger scan or even a finger print. Every time a woman in this country gives birth, her finger print is taken on a birth certificate. Likewise, every baby's foot print is also taken. We don't know that those aren't scanned into this almighty database of information or not. Is anyone who is concerned about scans or prints concerned that the government will start (or has already:confused: ) gathering those to collect in a data base? And, hospitals have much more information about us than Disney ever would (can't see them remotely wanting to know most input/output that is gathered in a hospital ;) ).

Yes, "big brother" probably is more involved in our lives than we sometimes want. But, I sure would prefer big brother to be involved and catch on to something like 6 men plotting to attack a military installation on U.S. soil (Fort Dix) than to lose the lives of hundreds of soldiers or civilians. A video store clerk called the FBI. I'm sure there have been checks at that video store to see who else was renting some of the same videos these people did at some point to determine if anyone else may have involvement. Is that big brother being intrusive - could be. I say "GOOD". Will they at some point go overboard or make a mistake - yes. People are not perfect, but I do believe they try to be reasonable.

We don't live in Mayberry anymore and with the changes we've seen in our world since 9/11, there will be intrusions from time to time. Yes, there is a line that can be crossed. The government requesting my vacation history from Disney is so far down the list of things I am worried about though, that if they want it, they can have it. Truth is we have no idea how often they have requested data bank information from companies we use daily (banks, hospitals, pharmacies, hardware stores, truck rental agencies, flight schools, etc.). If it keeps one person from committing an atrocity, go for it. I just think there are more important things to worry about.

Everyone here can choose to scan or not to scan. I frankly don't care anymore what anyone's personal choice is, it doesn't affect me one way or the other. If you get in first, big deal. This isn't kindergarten with everyone hollering "no cuts", although I have heard that at WDW :goodvibes . If you want to show your ID, show your ID. Life goes on.

Now the thing *I* am uncomfortable with is standing in those long lines.....if I just let a CM know, will he push a button and let me thru to the front of the line??

:rotfl2: Hilarious...I love it!

I can't believe this thread is still going. Haven't we had enough already?

Careful...when I posted the same thing that the argument has gone on long enough, I got flamed for even suggesting such a thing.

People just want to keep "discussing" the issue :rolleyes1 ...

I could but feel if somene makes it difficult for me the I can't be bothered. Bloody minded I know.

I wasn't trying to MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR YOU TO READ!!!!!I did not realize it would show up like that until after posted because the color doesn't show when your typing only when you post....But if that's how you feel I don't care if you read it or not...That is your choice just like the person who started this thread it's their choice and opion and so is mine we were all just voice our differences in them...I'll try in the future not to lay awake and nite and figures way to TRY and make it hard to read my posts...Geez....Whatever:mad:

I did not say you wanted to make it difficult to read I was asked a question and answered my feelings. My first point was just one of information that I find some colour fonts difficult to make out. I was then told to do a process to make it readable but put that I could not be bothered. If anything it was against me being lazy and someone telling me what to do.

My apologizes are in order I took it the wrong way and when I am wrong I say so and I apologize to you....I am very sorry for being rude to you and may you have a magical day:rolleyes1

No problem, It has been a bit of a roller coaster ride this thread and with some of my earlier points it was not unreasonable to make that conclusion but I did not mean to upset you.

I have had a bit of a day and do not wish anyone else to feel this way.

Lisa, I couldn't have said it any better...!!

If for some reason someone wants to store a digital image of my finger as I enter Disney, Go for it. I have nothing to hide... as for those that do have something to hide, I guess they'll avoid Disney.

When I'm at Disney I actually stop thinking along those lines and feel more trustworthy. Disney is my escape from the rest of the world for a while. :goodvibes

I guess if the ACLU wants to take on Disney's fingerprinting system thats their right and yours as well. However, in the end, by the time I have given them my credit card number, my home address and telephone number and my life savings, I guess I feel like, whats a fingerprint? This is one of those things that if I overanalyze, will dampen my vacation, heck I go to WDW to escape realilty not live it. And I am not trying to minimalize your concern or anything, just telling you why it would never occur to me to not do this. If it keeps people from ticket fraud practices I think that outweighs the issue of them having my fingerprint.

I agree!:thumbsup2

I've honestly never even thought about it. Like the previous poster, I would probably let them have a DNA sample to get inside the park. However, I totally support your right to NOT do it.

Why is everyone so quick to be so nasty and mean?

I haven't read through all the posts but this is the first response I've seen that I agree with.

...

Seems to have struck a nerve with the some folks. No idea why!:confused3

It does not bother me in least.

I have given my thumb prints many times.

My house was used as a "safe house" (a safe place where children could come if they felt threatened on the way to or from school ) in our neighborhood. That required a police backround check as well as taking my and DH's finger prints.

Quite often when I cash my travels checks at various casinos through out the country they ask me to use the ink and put my right thumb print on the
traverlers check.

In the scheme of things a simple scan of my finger is not a big deal to me.

.....They do the searches simply to give the impression we are all safer. When I do carry a bag or backpack into the park I have no issue with it being searched since I made the conscience decision to bring the bag with me knowing full well it will be searched.

BAG SEARCHES

The bag checks and the finger scanning slows down the crowds entering the parks.

There are many undercover security people watching us as we enter the parks. If you know where to look you would see all kinds of "hidden" security cameras.

I have seen more of those cameras in the parks then i anywhere I have vacation except maybe with the exception of Vegas.

Since 911 WDW is a no fly zone.
Disney has spent mega bucks on security since 9/11 and it would not surprise me at all if along with those Bioscans Disney has or will have in near future.security devices such as Bomb-sniffing technology (there are polymer devices already in use that can pick up on tiny trace amounts of explosive vapors from over 20 feet away).
Or the full body backscatter X-ray (which has already been tested at the Orlando airport).

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:

If a person refuses to scan then a ticket can be used by anyone and just passed around. Think about it the chances of them asking for ID when there's a huge line behind you is slim.

What does e o m mean? Is it end of message, please? If so it is easy to end, just don't click on it and for you it will be done. Simple, no hassles and the right thing to do!
