Refurb Updates

What a huge closure list. Several of the water rides (GRR, Splash, IASW) will be completely closed for the duration of our trip (park days 1/27-1/31). With so much closing on the 28th, that 27th will be a key day for us (Tea Cups, World of Color, possibly Big Thunder Trail, possibly Disneyland fireworks as it's our only weekend day).

So much to consider if we want to see each of those things. But on the bright side, BTMRR is my family's favorite ride, so I'll take these closures if that means we can ride Thunder Mountain 10 times.

Jan. 22 – Feb. 28, 2013: it’s a small world will be closed for refurbishment.

Why is It's a Small World down for refurbishment so frequently? I understand a few days each way for holiday overlays, but this makes two consecutive years (at least) with a separate and significant January/February refurb.

I don't recall the WDW version of It's a Small World needing this much maintenance.

BTMRR is officially on the calendar for closure Jan. 7th. I figured it was too good to be true that it was off the previously mentioned link. That's a LOT of closures for the end of January.

For January 22nd through February 14th, is this the first time ever that Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain have been down for simultaneous extended refurbs? That's going to kill that side of Disneyland.

I was wondering if they'd push BTMRR till after SM was done. But, then I figured that was my WDW brain talking.

...you mean the WDW that had to put up tarps over the Splash loading dock because the mountain is literally falling apart?

I know it stinks to have attractions down when you are there---I'll miss several as well. But, maintenance is important, and it has to be done. I wouldn't look to WDW as the model for how to do it.

Yep, except for Haunted Mansion and Pooh, that area will be dead.

I hope they come up with a real dandy theme those weeks to compensate for so many closures.

With Fastasmic!, World of Color, and Fireworks being down Mondays-Thursdays in that same window, along with all the other rides being down like It's a Small World, Silly Symphony Swings, the Tea Cups, and Grizzly River Run, it really could be the biggest set of refurb closures in Disneyland history.

and that's when we are going to visit :(

Me, too.

Oh well. We'll still have fun. It's a good thing I got my hotel at 50% off and my tickets at 24% off since only 75% of the park will be open, more or less. :rotfl2:

It was 30 degrees when I got up this morning. I can't wait for our SoCal trip.

It sounds like there are several of us that will be there about the same time. We're 1-28 thru 2-2. With all the items down, I'm glad I got such a good rate on airfare, room and tickets.

I haven't told my group of all the attractions down for refurbishment. They know about BTMRR and GRR but that's it. they'll find out once we get there.

I will enjoy the trip regardless of which rides are up or down.

With GRR and Splash down what else is there to get wet on?
My daughter-in-law bought shoes especially for the water rides! :rotfl2:

I believe there will be plenty to keep us entertained. Fortunately it's not our first and only trip. I'm glad Disney has a focus on maintenance-safety.

Love it! That is exactly the attitude I need to adopt. I'm just hoping they will tweak the calendar a little more, the regulars will stay home since so much is closed and everyone else will be busy in CarsLand- then I can stroll thru DL and absorb it all, shops, food, the little hidden gems....:wizard:

Yep, I hope to notice new details and just relax instead of doing commando-style touring like I normally do.

Geemo, I'll be there 1/29 thru 2/1.

Any chance the schedule will change? That is a huge list. This may be our last trip for a while and they love the water rides....... hmmm......I just purchased airline tickets today and may decide to get refund within 24 hour window.....

If the length of the list is an issue for you, at least you have the option to refund your airfare. We don't have that option.

I don't see the list getting any shorter. I just hope Disney doesn't add to the list.

I also hope nothing breaks down while we're there.

Just think how fun Indy is going to be now that everything is working:banana:

I'm still hoping either Splash Mountain or Thunder Mountain will be open in later January. We'll see. I don't fully trust this calendar:

http://disneyland.disney.go.com/calendar/#/default/2013/01

Because it shows no World of Color, no parades, no Aladdin, no fireworks for January 7th and 8th. The Fireworks I can understand, but the rest is surprising.

We briefly considered changing our plans, but the cost involved was atrocious. When we came 8 years ago splash mountain was down as well, personally i'm most disapointed with Fantasmic not running, as It wasn't on last time either. We are going to have a great time regardless of what is closed and really, who wants to ride water wet rides in January anyway :)

The crowds should be low at this time of the year (and with all the refurbs) Maybe i'll see world of color every night over the weekend (and am I ever glad we are staying over the weekend)

The calendar takes a long time to fill in. Things will trickle on there over the next month.
