I filed a few weeks ago. It was received on January 24 and is still being processes since they didn't start processing until yesterday.

It says on the IRS site that you should get your refund within 21 days of it being received. Last year I got it exactly at the 3 week mark. When I go to turbo tax it says I should have my refund by February 21.

Last year, I filed and it was accepted by the IRS on the first day they began accepting and processing returns. I had my direct deposit the following Friday. I hope they are quick like that this year!!!! I need this money desperately!!!!!!

If you get a refund when filing your taxes, you just gave the government a no-interest loan for the past year. On the other hand, if you owe money, then the government gave you a no-interest loan. It's all about planning.

They do charge a penalty though. I had to pay a $39 penalty last year on top of the $3,300 extra that I owed them. I'll probably get hit with a penalty again this year as I will probably owe again.

I'm surprised to see how many people owe money to federal or state. Is that a normal thing? We never owe the state (PA) anything and we always gets thousands back from federal. We could adjust that but I like getting that large lump sum.

We had additional tax liability this year. More income, penalties for a rich health plan. We also opted to have less withheld so we have more in our paycheck. It is a one off, we ordinarily get money back.

We owe 399.00 so not too bad. 90.00 is coming back from state.

I used to decline withholding and have a specific percentage withheld for both state and federal taxes, and I was always within $100 either way on the final tax liability. Then they changed the law and banned percentage withholding, and required you use the withholding charts. Now, I either owe thousands or have thousands in refunds. And I have almost NO deductions. No matter how we tweek the withholding, there is a huge gap.

I have to admit, I would support a 10% flat tax for all income over $20,000, with no deductions for anything. But then millions of tax preparers, tax lawyers, IRS and State Tax Board employees would be laid off, so I suspect that will never happen.

But for a lot of people it isn't that simple. If I underestimate our self-employment tax by too much we could be subject to a penalty, and even if I'm within the acceptable margin of error I prefer not to owe. Since DH's income is wildly variable and winter is his slow season, it is worth erring on the side of "no-interest loan" rather than on the side of a big bill coming due at a time of year when we have the least money coming in.

Also, many of those big refunds are due to refundable credits (EITC, education credits, etc) or unpredictable deductions that are hard to accurately compensate for by adjusting withholdings.

When my husband and I first got married we owned our house - no mortgage. This meant we owed each year since the interest is what throws us off now and we get a refund. I would must rather break even each year but that never happens.

I filed this morning and already got an email from H&R Block that my federal and one of my states was accepted. :thumbsup2

I filled ours out online but haven't filed yet. I need to call with a question on something first. :/

We always get money back, but we have a big family. We aren't getting back as much as last year, but it is enough to buy new tires for my Suburban and pay off a couple of the smaller credit cards.

I checked where's my refund this morning and it said that mine has been accepted and should be sent to my bank on February 6.

My hnrblock went from transmitted to 'prepared and waiting to be sent'. I filed the 30th.
Starting to worry...

Got my husband's W2 late Friday and did ours. Ours still says Efile trasmitted. Hoping it will be accepted by tomorrow...

I just checked after reading your post and mine says the same thing. It says deposited by 2/6. That's a lot faster than I was expecting.

Definetly some h&r block issues... I'm already a worrier. This doesn't help.
$300 in fees... After reading people spending less and already getting dd dates... Not going back there.
Their Facebook page is crazy!

My tax return is very simple. Nothing special on it and I do it for free through tax act. Have every year since 2005. Never had an issue. They early transmitted certain types of returns, I'd go out on a limb and say it was basic returns only.

I wouldn't pay someone to do my taxes unless they were extremely complicated and even then no way would I go to HRBlock. I hope you don't have any issues with your return.

We used filed through Military OneSource using H&R Block, and I will say I was concerned especially after reading this thread and their facebook page. I efiled on the 31st, and just got the email that the IRS has accepted my return. I hope they process it as fast as it looks like they have others.

My H&R block status has not changed online, but when I checked the IRS site it said that my return has been recieved and it is being processed. Hoping for DD at least by the 12th! :goodvibes
