Has anyone ever asked SWA to refund a non-refundable fare and had any luck? If so, how did you do it?
I don't want credit with them I want a complete refund.

We got a refund for one way (hopefully we'll use the way back!). Our flight was cancelled today- out of MacArthur- this really was upsetting, as when we left the house, the SWA website said the plane was scheduled to leave on time. SWA told us to go home- that they were not rebooking anyone- all flights were oversold. (till Mon!) We can't get out on another carrier, so we're going to hit the road- Janis

Thanks for the reply - safe travels to you

I am just asking, cuz since I bought our SWA fares I can get same price and not have to drive the 120 miles to the airport, I could leave on Frontier at our local airport which is 10 minutes away.

I recently had a $100 credit that was about to expire. I called customer service to see if I could get an extension, and they ended up just refunding my credit card! I couldn't believe it!

I don't think they would refund for that purpose.
I was thinking the same thing. We have received a refund to our credit card from rebooking non-refundable tickets when there were still seats available and we saw that the internet fare offered was lower than we'd booked at. Didn't have to get a 1-year for future flights credit, but what you are talking about is very different.
Be surprised if any airline would refund on a non-refundable ticket unless there was a medical or weather emergency.

All you can do it ask (do it politely) and don't be upset with them if they say no.

If you call the regular (not the 800) number for SW customer service and ask for a refund you MAY get lucky. Some DISers have been lucky, others have not.

I would leave out the part of finding a cheaper flight on another carrier.

Wow - rude much? Couldn't find another way to phrase it.

I have to say I actually agree with the "what part of non-refundable" comment.

I realize it may seem rude, but it's true. I don't get it, you purchase "non-refundable" and then you want a refund???? (And it's not just SW, I have seen it on lots of other airlines on this board.)

like a previous poster said, call and ask... the worst thing they can say is NO!

and if they say no, then you have a few options... you can sell your ticketless travel funds to a friend or on ebay or you can take another trip...

Gheesh you guys I was just asking - I have read of people getting refunds and was just inquiring since I would assume most people purchase the SWA non-refundable fares.

I am perfectly aware of the definition of non-refundable. It never hurts to ask. Criminy.

I've only gotten refunds when I buy a ticket, then I find the fare has dropped for the exact same itinerary. They refunded the difference rather than give the credit.
I was told it was only b/c there were no changes to my itinerary. I had only called to get the 6 mo. extension and was pleasantly surprised that I could get a refund.
