Refund for tropical storm/hurricane?

Yep, we live in the City of Mary Esther right between Pensacola and Panama City. Ivan was when we evacuated and actually went to Orlando, because the storm drew in all the clouds from Orlando and it was clear there. We came back home to see our big old Hickory tree laying on our house with branches in the attic. So you see why I say never head towards a hurricane.

When Ivan hit, I was living in Niceville, we evacuated to Gainesville. Very thankful didn't have any damage

btw, Noaa just changed to projecting a Cat 1 now, but also just barely staying off the coat of FL.

If you're coming, just continue to keep an eye.

We had moved back to the area when DH retired from the Marines. When Ivan hit we had an acre in Pace and lost most of our oak trees and had to replace the roof. After Ivan we never stayed home for a Cat 2 or more. Best friend from school just moved back to Gulf Breeze and trying to get me to move back home...nope.

We went to Disneyworld for a hurricane once. Great trip,. Planned it a year ahead and we didn't want to cancel. Traffic was going the other way. The parks were closed one day but we liked looking at the storm and hanging out at our motel. The next day Epcot was open with driving rain and wind. Wonderful!!! No crowds at all and we giggled to each ride. The only down side was thinking about the cm's who had houses to be damaged and families to worry about. We also went to disney after 911 in November. I say just go. your local walmart is likely more dangerous.

We decided to chance it and are at the Riviera now. Hopefully things don't get too bad on Sunday and we can get to the park at least for a little while. Sunday is our Epcot day.

As of the 5am notice, it looks like the NHC moved it a tick more east

Though the GFS and Euro models has it a tick more west just kissing the FL coast.

Because this storm is such a mess (not organized at all) it's hard to say if/what impact it'll have on Orlando

Just gotta watch the Euro and GFS models which brings it into the state. Putting things away on the patio today...fun times.

Read some of the weather geeks on Cat 6. Pray for the folks in the Bahamas....this could be a flood maker for them.

I am getting worried about potential storm Isaias. On top of everything else going on to limit our vacation, we didn't need this Has anyone ever departed early due to a tropical storm or hurricane? I know official policy is Disney is not obligated to refund, but have they in the past? We are supposed to arrive tomorrow so would need to make the decision to cancel today in order to get a full refund. I don't want to throw in the towel yet because hopefully it could end up being not too bad. Any advice?

Generally speaking, only if they actually close the parks. And even then that’s rare. We were in Orlando for Michael a few years ago and everything was shut down, but the resorts were being used by displaced evacuees. we didn’t get anything back as it was all open back up full steam within 36 hours. We lost one day, and it wasn’t worth the hassle to demand a refund for our park entry.

That looks like our old house in NE Houston when Hurricane Alicia came through. We had a big old oak tree lie down on our house, without doing much damage other than to the gutter and the fence next to it.

Ok boys and girls get your ponchos ready...it's going to be a rather blustery weekend because the weather is going to be . It may come up the state or in at the Cape. Regardless of where it goes... we will get wet.

This thread is fascinating (and at times, infuriating) for this operational meteorologist to read. I'm glad most of you pointed novices toward the NHC, but man, without having proper training, those maps can be easily misunderstood. (Like the "cone" ... impacts can extend far away from the boundaries of the cone because all that is is a projection of where the center of the storm could eventually end up.) Because of that, I also suggest that you follow the local NWS offices, who typically do more "what does this mean for you" type communication than the more technical forecasts from the NHC.

I would venture to say that those of us in Fl do pay attention to our local mets and NHC as well.

I'm not sure how long your trip is but as long as things don't shift, its supposed to be in the middle of Florida by 2am Monday. I have grown up in FL my entire life and I can tell you if it's a tropical storm it isn't going to be any worse than the normal daily monsoons you see during the summer with the heavy rain lasting about an hour or 2. The website nhc.noaa.gov is one of the best ways to judge the storm and look at the plots for what it might do. Good luck and I hope you get to enjoy the magic!

Except Tropical Storm Fay which stuck around Orlando for almost a week. We were at Universal. It was crazy, the lockers were operated by finger print so weren’t working because everyone’s fingers were so waterlogged!
