Refund for tropical storm/hurricane?

I arrived in WDW 4 days before Dorian was scheduled to hit Orlando last September. When we arrived there were dozens of people checking out at the resort and panicking to change flights and leave. It emptied out, we stayed, and walked onto nearly everything for days. The day it "hit" Orlando, 78 degrees and sunny, and rained a bit at night. It was glorious. Sign me up for the next hurricane.
We arrived at WDW the day it "hit" Orlando too. We were at WDW for two days and then went on a DCL cruise. Those two days at WDW were the BEST!!! Super low crowds! The DCL was also awesome as the ocean was really calm.

I grew up in Southwest Florida. So, I actually have. Many.
Orlando is another story.
Well we have been in Florida since 84 (Orlando and now Panhandle) I would not suggest people go toward a hurricane but to each their own. I will just end with 1999 Floyd and 2004 Charley.

Last year I left one day early because of a hurricane forecast to hit Orlando. (September) I wasn't going to leave but my husband wanted me to get home. He was afraid I'd be stuck there a few extra days which I wouldn't have minded.

Anyways - I did not get a refund. I did stop by the desk on my way out and asked for one so they got the manager who said they were not currently giving refunds if a guest chose to leave. When I got home I called and spoke to someone else who said the track of the hurricane had changed (it had) and it wasn't going to hit Orlando after all so no refunds were being given.

So I guess it depends on what happens with the weather but I didn't get a refund.

Lies I tell you - it's going to be bad, especially DHS on Tuesday. Stay far away. Get out while you can.

We live in SW Florida and if we get another Irma type storm, we're heading to Orlando. It will be better in Orlando than on an island on the Gulf Coast.

The National Hurricane Center has the storm staying mainly in the Atlantic for now. Once it crosses over Hispaniola, it may change again.

Not funny I guess. When Disney upends your plans by cancelling your free dinning plans or just about ends housekeeping that's ok without compensation. I wonder why it's not a two way street

So that means that Tuesday is your DHS day and you want a reduced crowd.

Stay on topic, stay on topic, stay on topic... a poor play on words from a Star Wars reference...

We are coming down on Friday and leaving Monday back to Atlanta.. A quick trip but we will spend 1 day in each park Friday through Monday... For those who are experienced with these storms, is it just a rainy day or is this something that could affect all day closures of rides, etc...
Looks likes its heading further east which is good, but not sure what impacts it would have in the parks?? We are staying at CBR and hoping to utilize the Skyliner for Epcot and HS, but I assume it will be closed for most of the weekend??

I'm sure that depends on what the ACTUAL weather brings, not what it might bring. If there are heavy rains, winds, and storms, they'll shut it down. But since the weather folks barely know what tomorrow will bring, I don't think I'd make any assumptions yet for 2-5 days from now. You might be fine!

Still too early to know the track. Right now it is drifting east. This evenings update will be a good indicator of what to expect. Right now it looks like a Sat 8 AM - Sat 8 PM possible window for rain / winds around Orlando.

The Skyliner will not operate in high winds or when lightning has been detected in the area. Buses will be offered if the Skyliner is not operating. Parks should be open but outdoor ride experiences may be closed periodically.

If it stays east: Probably a little breezy, scattered storms (could even have little impact to the area). Outdoor rides close for whatever their threshold is, which lightning is one, but not sure if there is a wetness factor.

I wouldn't joke about it, but the latest models show that the storm is having trouble even forming an eye. If you really don't want to go, I imagine Disney will still do just about everything they would if it was a strong hurricane, and all you have to do is tell them you are worried about COVID.

There - on topic - sorry for the levity. FWIW - my parents lived in Houston for a while and the locals there would rather the storm reach hurricane strength because the hurricane is more centered and is in and out in a short time period. TS storms tend to be scattered and linger - will probably see rain all week. Not thrilled about that - but preparing for it.

Do you expect Disney or any other business to compensate customers for any other decisions the customer makes? If not, why this? If you do, when the business hasn't made any changes related to your reasoning, why?

The size and strength of the storm have nothing (ok maybe not nothing, but not the entire driving factor) to do with the speed which it moves. Hurricanes can stall and tropical storm move at high speed. And have you looked at the latest track, which shows from Sunday and into Monday it speeds up, and may reach high sub-sonic speeds based on the distance covered.

Grew up on the Gulf in the Fl panhandle...hence my name. Been thru the worse including 6 hours of Ivan's eye wall and prayed for my roof.

Take ALL TS and possible hurricanes seriously. Check for updates at the nhc.noaa.gov and local news channels.

Even if it's a TS it could spawn tornados. If it does become a hurricane, food at the resorts could become more limited. When we evacuated from the Space Coast for Dorian and stayed at the GD, they were boxing up meals and restaurants had limited menus.

Stay safe!

Been at WDW during two tropical storms. The first it wasn’t that bad and we went to DHS during it and just walked onto rides. The second one the weather was worse. We had picked up items for breakfast the night before and stayed in our room until the afternoon when it let up and then went to Downtown Disney (this was before it was Disney Springs) and just wrote it off as a non park day.

True, if the storm is in the Atlantic (like Dorian) or in the Gulf, it will suck most of the clouds away from central Florida. When Ivan hit by us in the panhandle, we went to Orlando while most people by us went the other way and had lots of traffic. But if a storm is heading towards central Florida like Floyd and Charlie, I will not head that way. LOL

Yep, we live in the City of Mary Esther right between Pensacola and Panama City. Ivan was when we evacuated and actually went to Orlando, because the storm drew in all the clouds from Orlando and it was clear there. We came back home to see our big old Hickory tree laying on our house with branches in the attic. So you see why I say never head towards a hurricane.
