Refillable mugs

When we were at the Riviera last month these were our only options. Not sure about the other resorts. Have a great trip. 554585554586

Probably a not so smart question but we never bought the refillable mugs in the past... If you buy them 1 trip can you bring them with you on another trip? I'm assuming that's why the thread started- when ever they switch over to new mugs can you not get refills? Thank you.

Technically, the mugs have rfid tags that only allow refills at soda machines for 14 days (that length can be extended if you have a longer, continuous trip).
They have never allowed re-activating old mugs from past trips since converting to this rapid fill technology.

In order to maintain touch less safety, there is currently a CM stationed at the open refill stations. You show your mug, and they hand you a new, filled paper cup that you can use to refill your mug.

They are activated for 14 days. So, if you do a split stay, they will work at both resorts,

Each trip requires a new one. I do wish there was a way to pay to have them reactivated as I bought the Star Wars one last year and it’d be awesome to be able to bring and use.

Just a tip, if you ask nicely then it's possible for you to save a return trip and get a couple of cups instead of just one. It's a YMMV rather than a policy though.

We had that experience at BLT in January. They were very flexible. Not so much at Boardwalk Bakery, but it still worked out Okay.

Funny enough, Boardwalk Bakery was the one that said no to us as well! BCV didn't have an issue with it.

You can bring them but you can't use them at refilling stations. They have a radio frequency chip in them and will not work. You need to buy a new one each trip if you're soo inclined .

Agreed. My wife uses the Star Wars mug every day at home, which is great, but we'd be really happy to use it on future trips, even for a $20 reactivation fee. Not gonna happen any time soon.

How would they know if it was a current looking 2 month old mug if they don’t touch/scan mugs? Or was it a years old mug?

I used an actual purchased mug - wasn't trying to cheat the system.

Over time the design of the mugs also change, but after we got home the mugs we had in Dec were the same as the ones we used a year ago. No RFID was activated.

Our trip includes BWV, CC, VB and HHI and covers 12 nights. Will a mug I buy at BWV be good for the whole trip?

Is the coffee good?

Yes , it would be great to diminish the clutter at home ! I still got 10 from 2006 , 2008 and 2010 trips ....

Pre-Covid, I know the system would allow the 1st 3 resorts, but I don’t remember reading if HHi was part of the same refilling system as WDW/VB. You might want to keep the mug purchase receipt just in case.

The coffee is a standard coffee made in a proper commercial maker/dispenser, but I’ve never been “wowed” by it. They usually don’t have flavored creamers.

Thanks. something to think about. At home DH and I each brew our own coffee, and this is a rather new development! With one coffee pot in the room at DVC, maybe getting mugs will just be a better compromise.
