So because they live in Orlando they think they are entitled to free soda for life? That is a bit of a stretch. They could just by a single soda as they are thirsty, which is what they should be doing.
Well if they want to do that is their choice and I am not going to tell them they are wrong. Besides it's not like they go to the Contemporary everyday and use their mugs, because they usally go during the event I mentioned and it only happens once a month. Plus they must figure it's cheaper to use the mugs and not spending money on the paper cups each time they go. Finally since they have the silver design those mugs don't have any rules written on them and there were no signs at the time in the Food & Fun Center saying they were good for that stay when they were purchased.

Close enough to drive the WDW anytime they want *and* free drinks for life?!?! That's just NOT FAIR ;).

Iyou paid the $12 for the length of the stay the go "green." Filling up when you didn't pay is by law stealing and if Disney wanted they could prosecute. It would be the same as going to 7-11 with a cup and filling it up with soda without paying. Maybe the mugs would be cheaper if so many people stopped stealing the soda?

It's stealing about $.06 per refill. That's WDW's bottom line on a refill of soda.

Personally I wouldn't feel badly about re-using a refillable mug. Obviously WDW doesn't care all that much either, or they wouldn't have refillable mugs at all. You would be handed your already filled cup from behind the counter.
WDW makes so much money on those of us who buy the mugs and only use them a few times, and by having you fill your own drinks.. thus saving time and money on employees... that I am quite sure they don't care in the least about people re-using their mugs!!!

What a silly debate.

You must be one of those rare people who offer to pay for the paper cups. plastic lids and straws that restaurants provide for you. As well as the extra napkins you use and the condiments. Restaurants have to pay for those as well. How about the free cups filled with water and ice that are available to you at any time within the parks? You must offer to pay for those as well.

These costs are built into their overhead running costs... as are the refills on the drinks that well paying resort guests are filling themselves from self serve soda locations at $.06 per pop!! These sodas are made from super inexpensive concentrates. Disney resorts are more than happy to provide guests with perks such as fill your own refillable mugs. You make up for it with the food you purchase.
And more than paid for by your resort stay, park tickets and souvenier purchases!!

Wow... you are a very testy and righteous person indeed!

Like I said- this is a very ridiculous and worthless debate!!!

Disney DOES NOT CARE!!!

Oh please! Please stop trying to rationalize your point of view! As I have said before, millions and millions of people visit every year and only a fraction read these boards. Do you really think that there are so many people out there trying to deliberately rip-off Disney? Either way, people are going to continue bringing their mugs from previous trips until told otherwise.

:worship: I totally agree ... I honestly don't know why this topic keeps coming up time and time again, or even why this thread is still open - it's been argued to death and people are just rehashing the same old thing over ... nothing ever constructive comes of threads like this
:sad2:

Paper cups, plastic lids and straws are FREE! Lifetime refills are not! I really don't care what other people do but don't criticize those that don't agree with you. I will follow the rules; others may choose not to. But, I do believe that Disney DOES CARE (unless they told you otherwise)! :)

There is no written or implied "extra" cost for the items you listed. On the other hand, the Disney mugs clearly state, "for the duration of the visit in which this mug was purchased".

I readily admit Disney is giving a mixed message here. However, for me, the written word trumps the CM's apathy.

LoL...Nicely put.:thumbsup2 Seriously, I hope this thread gets closed. It's so pointless. I just love reading this threads because they are good for a couple of laughs.

Does anyone think that Disney actually cares that guests who dropped like $5000 on a WDW vacation and bought a refillable mug for $13 comes back next year and drops another $5000 but decides to use the SAME refillable mug again and, *gasp* STEALS $1.50 worth of FREE refills over the course of the vacation. Really?!! Don't think so. Disney is smart enough to have assumed that risk and cost once they first started the refillable mug thing.

And for those following the rightous path, no one should complain unless they have followed every rule, never taken any short-cuts, and always paid what they were supposed to have paid their entire lives.

I am not perfect and I don't think anyone else is.....:3dglasses

I'd like for someone in the "reuse" group to tell us why you think Disney bothers to put the wording on the mugs if they really don't care.

One Cast Member told me they do that so WDW gets you to purchase a new mug on your vacation, so they make even more money.

As opposed to making no money at all from people who bring back the old one??

So why doesn't Disney just put "You get free refills forever with this mug" on the mug and on signs over the mug instead? People will forget their old mug at home and buy another.

I'll bite on this one. I'm sure they were afraid that eventually everyone would own the "reusable" mugs and they wanted to cap that off. It's important to remember, though, that there are a lot of people who have mugs that were purchased BEFORE they started to put the signs up and the writing on the mugs about "length of stay." Those of us who bought them almost 10 years ago were offered the chance to buy these with "lifetime" refills at that specific resort.

I just don't see, and nobody has addressed this directly, why these people are being lumped in with all of the mug "reusers." If I bought a new mug, I would follow the new rules, but, as far as I see, I'm still following the rules for the mug I purchased many years ago.

I don't buy refillable mugs but what really gets me is why do you (collective "you") people care so much about what other people do? This thread is 15 pages long. Those who reuse mugs aren't going to change and those that think it's wrong also aren't going to change. There is nothing that is going to come out of this thread except for 2 groups of people that hold different beliefs.

I have a 10 year old mug that I hand paint every time they change the mug theme, and I take it along every trip mmmmuuuuaaaahhhh!!!! ;)

I'm evil I tell you, evil!!!!!!!! :stir:

Thats easy to address every policy has a disclamer stating the rules can change without notice. People saw it when the dining plan changed to no longer include starters or tips.

I have 3 of the 'good forever' mugs from DxL. Have I returned with them? No. I can't say if they are still good since DxL is now POR. I'm sure no CM at POR is going to say anything about my reusing those mugs. But, here's the thing...the vast majority of those with 'forever' mugs in all likelihood, are not returning to that same resort, over and over. In that case, 'legally' the mug is no longer good. It is only good at the resort it was purchased at. That is the legal stance.

I can't believe this discussion is still going so strong. There is never going to be complete agreement as to what is proper. Those that don't think you should bring back mugs, time after time, are going to keep on buying new mugs. Those that like to reuse their mugs, will continue to do so.
If, and when, Disney decides they want to stop the practice, then the discussion will mean something. Until Disney does something to prevent 'illegal' refills (and I use that term quite loosely everyone), do what you want..it's up to each person to decide what works for their family. I can see both sides of the argument...I have reused a mug before..albeit at the same resort but over a period of 18-24 months. But I generally buy new mugs when I go...especially if there is a new design.

I just looked at my mugs from last year and can't find any wording on it saying it is good only for the trip it was bought on. And honestly I don't remember seeing any signs posted either. I was planning on bringing our mugs back with us to reuse until I saw what the new ones looked like. I will be getting new mugs this year.

Look by the handle, mine from 2007 say.....

"Free refills available at our resort beverage islands until the end of the stay in which the mug was purchased"

Again some will follow it, some won't, but it definitely does say it on 2007 YOMD mugs.
