Refillable mug--really want to know

Personally.. to those who wish to take their mugs back - have at it.

I can't be bothered to lug a 50c piece of plastic 3,000 miles and the restrictive carry-on and luggage rules really mean that by choosing to pack 'mugs' == I'm NOT able to pack other important things like pants.. or socks.

More than half the time.. I end up located in a room that's not at all convenient to make 'mug runs' from anyway.. (ain't that the way?)

So.. I think what I'm gonna do now.. is whenever I see an old out of date mug being refilled.. I'm going to laugh inside a bit thinking bout the socks and underwear they didn't pack so they could bring the mugs.

Realistic? No. But it will keep me entertained. LOL.

Good one! :thumbsup2

I did buy three mugs, at DxLs back in '99 that were sold as 'good forever'. There was signage there, as well as CM confirmation.
Now...have I ever brought them back? Nope. Way too much trouble. I actually have close to 20 of the darn things. I keep buying new ones. BUT...if I'm at a resort (usually DVC) that doesn't have self-serve beverage stations, I just don't bother with the mugs.

Do what you will. I don't care. If, and when, Disney decides to 'care' then you will see changes. But, the rules are quite clear as of now..they are printed on the mugs as well as signage at the cup area. You want to lug those mugs back, go right ahead. It matters not to me, or to many of us. You need to do what you think is right. But, be aware, many will nag at you and post very negatively about you. And you really don't have a leg to stand on since Disney has posted the 'rules'..even if they don't enforce them.

I'll throw this in...I'd imagine if Disney wanted to invest in a system to monitor refill mug usage at resorts, they could implement the bar code system you see for the refills mugs at Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. I suspect the cost to implement such a bar code system at the resorts outweighs the cost of what they are doing now. (And with those bar code mugs, I saw two teenagers figure out a way to beat that system too.)

You could easily stop all the debate about refillable mugs.
We all know it's against board policy to discuss ways to cheat Disney or get around their rules. I never understand why so many flaunt here their disrespect for policy and are not stopped. Give infractions each time they brag and encourage rule breaking.
That should save mods a lot of time and make the boards more pleasant for all of us.

I second this.
Reusing mugs, pool hopping, smuggling in kids that are above three for free, putting 6 people in a room that is only for four, taking a crock pot to cook in your room and lying about the age of nine.
This misbehavior is increasing the prices for all of us.
Those that advocate or encourage this kind of behavior should get a warning and after repeating this behavior or stimulate others to do so should be banned.
You can almost bet on the names that show up and tell you to break the rules. There always the same.

When packing, ya know you can stuff a couple of underwear in the cups. Just sayin'. LOL:eek: :rotfl:
Sorry, I just had to say that!! I, of course, would NEVER do that!!!

RE: The Sticky Idea

Sorta pointless.. unless we follow the example of what we did with the Smoking thing.

We have one thread to discuss another hot topic.. SMOKING and Designated Smoking areas. That's it. One thread. The rules are posted at the beginning of the thread.. Go outside the rules.. post is deleted with a warning. Repeated warnings will result in infractions and bla bla bla.

Any new threads created are merged into the ONE smoking thread and subject to the same rules.

Restaurants Board does the same thing with tipping.

Hmm.. might work.. Might not.. Dunno. What do you all think?

These threads make me chuckle! I do have both types of mugs. The forever refillable and the length of stay refillable.

It's a fact that there was a time (for me it was in 2000) that they sold forever refillable's. There were signs everywhere. I purchased them at ASM and have brought them back when we stayed there. In 2007 when we brought them some older CM's liked seeing them again and knew they were sold as forever's, newer CM's had never seen them before and thought they were cool but weren't aware that forever's were ever sold.

This time we are staying at Music so it's a no go for the mugs but if I stay at Movies again I will definitely drag them with me.

I have never brought a RFM from home to re-use, but I do gotta say, Disney has more than made their money on us with the mugs. We've bought one for everyone in our party for each trip - that's 22 mugs! - and I think I've refilled mine no more than 5-6 times per trip.

Not blaming Disney! I bought the mug of my own free will, lol, but they did make a good profit from me. Does that make everyone feel better? ;) :rotfl:

A big red "don't ask" and an alarm bell ringing when ever one of these questions pop up answer. :rotfl2:
BTW we get them for free with the dining plan and still refuse to use them.
I always see people eating out of the nose, kids with snotty noses and no handkerchiefs, people cleaning out there ears and worse of all people using there hands in there underwear to do what only god knows in the refill row.

Well I hope you understand when I stayed at the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge during the late 1990's and early 2000's, I didn't see any signs like you mentioned. The only thing I remember seeing was signs on their drink machines saying the mugs could be brought back on future vacations and the Cast Members said the same things when purchasing them. So I am just reporting what I saw at the time and what I was told.

Yes, we bought quite a few and they were forever at the resort you purchased them at. In the CBR they had them in the room with the price (7.99 I think) and that they were good forever!! I have at least 4 of the CBR mugs! We also have the ASMu and that was the same deal (from 1995) I do see some with the older resort type mug and they do use them (as they should in my opinion-They were bought on that pretense)

Yes, they used to sell them for lifetime use (resort specific). That has not been the case in some time...

I didn't know this was such an issue here. I guess it is the Disney newbie in me. We went last year in Sept for our first trip ever. We bought the refillable mug. When I bought it, I asked the lady if we could bring it back every year like at Universal. She said Yes, you sure can! So if we go back we will bring them. If they tell me that we can't use them then we will not use them. I had no idea this was a debate on the board.:confused3

IN reading all these threads, I did bring our WL mug in Feb and used it no problem. I have 4 CBR (at least) and those will come in Dec. Why not big advertising back then PLUS we ended up with a few more since they used to leave them in the rooms and some were accidently used by younger kids (and of course we pd. for them) 4 were left in each room no matter how many on the res.

Yes, it is. The past few years the mugs were sold for length of stay (signage states this now) and changed a couple times (no actual cutoff times) During the late 1990's and early 2000's they were resort specific and sold as forever use (flyer in room and food courts) at that particular resort. We do have quite a few different ones (CBR 4 at least, ASMu, WL, Poly, CSR, and POFQ ) If you look around you most likely will see some of those at the food courts! WE usually do.

That's when they knew that Dixie Landings was going to cease to exist in 2000. Since it no longer exists, those "forever" mugs are no longer of any use.

Back in 2002 when this bar code system started at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon there was talk that they were going to test it out at one of the resorts, however for whatever reason they decided not to do it. So since it's now 2010 I doubt we will ever see this added to the resort counter service locations, because back then was there chance to do it and for whatever reason they choose not to.

But as a long time visitor you should be aware that before the mugs actually had the rules printed on them, there were signs posted over the refill stations and over the stack of mugs that guests would buy that stated the rules about them only being good for the length of your trip at that resort for that stay only. I know that was the case in 1997 at Captain Cook's at the Polynesian when we bought our first mugs.

The cups have rules printed on them?!?! Now I am going to go home and read my mugs......:lmao:

Like I said, I think the refillable mug fights are fun. I very much enjoy watching the SARMP come marching in with their declarations about following rules and I also enjoy watching people say that they don't care and sending the SARMP into a tizzy, especially the posting of "theft" definitions from dictionary.com But my favorite was the woman who really, seriously wanted to call CPS.

Also the people who work for Coca-Cola and can't tell you how they know, but they know that Coke is giving Disney all that pop for free. And the following discussion of how someone else's BIL works for Coke and knows that it costs $.81 for X amount of pop, so that stolen pop has actually cost $.0037 and when you multiply that by all the stolen pop, it works out to $29.99 a year, which means we're paying an extra penny on each stay or whatever.

It's all very amusing.

Without the uniqueness of the RM fights and all the very, VERY stupid fights, the DIS is - IMO - just another Disney site. It's uniqueness is what draws people here, even the ones who don't admit it.

So, that's MHO. But, again, I don't moderate.

Maybe we could make it like Thunderdome. Whoever stays at the keyboard longest and keeps fighting wins. The other is banned.

None of it is as fun as the smoking fights were. That guy who was going to come down to the U.S. and fart on everyone because he was so infuriated by the smokers...the one who posted about his GI symptoms and why his farts would be so bad...was THE BEST EVER.

Don't take the RM fights away. One thread would be okay, though I really prefer they just pop up, but please don't take them away.
