Refillable Mug Question

Robmary - there are more than a few people thinking that you are the evil one!

robmary,

Thanks, but my pressure's fine... in fact it usually runs low.

Too bad you didn't ask about sneaking a 5th person into the All Stars... you'd have scored a "hot-button" tri-fecta!

packy,

If my kids hadn't been there jumping up and down with excitement I would have handed it back. If I had realized that the ad had been used before I would have politely declined the woman's offer behind us. The comparison was that in both the T-shirt case (if they had turned me away) and Gepetto's hypothetical the person asking was given bad information or a false impression and was asking for things that technically weren't due to them.

'Do you agree that this policy can vary from resort to resort'.?
No, the policy is set by Disney. But I do agree that the policy can be enforced differently at different resorts. Just like "no pool hopping" is a Disney policy, but different resorts may choose to knowingly not enforce it in certain circumstances.

If they stand worker had said "Sorry, but I think this program was already used to get a shirt."

The difference is..I bought the mug, I was told it's good at my resort for other trips down. I would not have taken Joe Smoe's mug and then attempted to re use it if I saw the policy was that it can't be refilled (or bought a used one on eBay for this purpose). I would want to have heard it from someone I would consider in authority..in my mind, a CM at the food court would do. The permission was given to me, when I bought our mugs (it was how we were talked into buying them). If policy changes on the mugs I bought beofre, then I'll adhere to it. If I buy new mugs and am told that they have still not changed over to the new policy than I'll continue to refill on susequent trips. If I buy new mugs (which is likely, as we try out new resorts) and I'm told they have started using the new policy, and they are sticking with it..my "new" mugs will be just another souvenier. But for now..the mug I use is from before the signs changed and the beverage Island sported the new signage.
I wonder now, based on your day at the ballpark, if I'm doing something wrong with my fast passes. Hubby and I have AP's but never go on the fast rides (Test track, Thunder Mountain, etc)..however, we have always gotten fast passes and hand them to someone just coming in, so they don't have to wait. I always thought I was doing a good deed, throwing some magic at a person just coming in..but I wonder now, if that's a bad thing to be doing. I always figured they were just taking our just places..but maybe I'm cheating the system somehow.

DMRick,

I was trying to show how being turned away could be embarrasing if you were led to believe one thing and then found the situation to be different... I wasn't trying to equate the mugs with the t-shirt.

The FP example is totally immaterial. We do that too. If you'll read my story, the ad had already been redeemed for a free shirt before it was offered to us. You aren't suggesting that the program should have been circulated around the stands so lots of kids could get free shirts with it, do you?

Packy, don't you think evil is a pretty strong word for someone who is new to this board and trying to find out some answers before our trip. I didn't see posted anywhere what not to ask. Maybe you and Geoff should get together and spell that out for all us novices to this site.

robmary,

I think packy's was a tongue-in-cheek comment.... a joke. ;) I think this thread has shown that people can be passionate about a topic without getting nasty.

How did you read that into what I wrote?? I think it was terrible and dishonest for the women to give you the brochure.
I'm saying that you didn't know the thing had already been redeemed. I wouldn't be embarrassed by my mug, since I was the original owner, and I know what I was told.

The FP example is totally immaterial.

It's only immaterial if we are talking just about mugs (which you weren't) and not about rules/embarrassment. You found out a "rule" had been broken (by the lady giving you the brochure to get a free shirt). I was wondering if FP was yet another "rule" on the Disney score card and if the people we gave them to might suffer embarrassment if asked if they were "their" fastpasses.

If you hang around here long enough, you'll find that people like to often joke about "hot-button" classics. Every now and then someone will post a obvious gag thread on "hot-button" issues and see if they can pull somebody's leg. They're along the line of "Is it OK if the 5 of us who will be staying in one room at the All-Stars, fill up our old resort mugs, and go pool hopping at Strom-Along Bay???"

I wouldn't be embarrassed by my mug, since I was the original owner, and I know what I was told.

DMRick,

I believe the comment that triggered my story was that someone said they would feel embarassed if they tried to re-use their mug, based solely on information they recieved from a third-party here and not directly from a CM, but where turned away. That's it. End of parallel. I'm not saying the CM didn't tell you what you say you were told. I've already said I don't have a problem with your approach to this issue and I still mean it.

I was wondering if FP was yet another "rule" on the Disney score card and if the people we gave them to might suffer embarrassment if asked if they were "their" fastpasses.
Well, depending on the person, the answer to your hypothetical could be "yes" or "no". Some people embarrass more easily than others. The question was asked "how could you?" and I attempted to relate a recent personal example. Many people wouldn't have felt the same way that I did in my shoes. I'm sorry if it was a bad example for you.

phyllis1966,

I don't think by a long shot!

Robmary - tounge-cheek-is correct (thanks for the words Geoff_M). You innocently started a [fill in the adjective] thread.

"I am having a hard time understanding why some take exception to the fact that you stay at the same resort, you ask the resort personnel if it is O.K., and when they say 'Yes', you feel we are somehow doing something wrong"

simple, they have appointed themselves as "eisner's stormtroopers", to patrol these boards & all soda dispensers, making them safe for the World....because they 'know better".

Because they are not asking at the resort - they are asking here and people like you tell them it's okay and they go ahead and do it.

The policy is "Length of stay" ~ tell them that ~ and let them decide if they want to "ask" locally.

Oh, that's too rich! As far as I've found, the only one hurling a stream of accusations here is you. People here have explained their personal actions, but nobody's admonished anyone else here to change theirs.

(Don't take the "bait and run" people.)

--for the record, it wasn't originally posted by me. but, it is okay, or else the cm's wouldn't tell you to do it. You see, it does not say "for one stay only"

don't worry, i'm not running anywhere. Yes, I am accusing people of being silly little code enforcers of codes disney DOES NOT WANT ENFORCED. If they wanted them enforced, they would be. Don't you see how everything is so controlled at WDW...if they want to control it. What makes you, or your ilk, better at deciding what WDW wants to control than disney itself. That is why you are soo darn funny. You have these little internet power trips, & I'm telling people that you have no power, authority or information that will help them....because, in reality, you don't.

Bottom line, if you are rich enough to afford WDW more than once, then you can afford new mugs if necessary. We are just trying to get there once.........that will be enough for us!! And most people we know have never been there and probably never will. For us, we are putting off many home improvements and needed components(our appliances are ancient)so that our children can see the magic just once.:D

LOL you guys crack me up ... You do know that the CM working for min. wage at the register in the food court is not the one who decides to set or inforce policies. That CM is most likely giving the easy answer so they don't get yelled at by someone who feels entitled to free soda for the rest of their life. As it has been said before ... if you want/expect an exception to writen policy, get it in writing. If you don't then your exception is worth the paper it isn't written on.

Once again as a cast member I will answer officially.

The mugs are "supposed to be used only one trip" in order to remidy this, Disney is in the process of changing the drink dispensors to include bar code readers"already installed at the water parks. The cups have a bar code on them and in order to get the dispensor to work you must first scan the barcode off your cup. Theyt are working very well and are to be installed at all locations at some point in time.
