Refillable mug changes

So even if we are on the DDP we still have to purchase one when we get there? Sorry I am a first timer to Disney World!

Don't be sorry. Being a first time and on these forums means you'll be well planned out.

And to answer your question - no you don't need to buy one. If you are on DDP you (and everyone on the DDP) each gets a mug. Get it your first day at your resort and it's good for the length of your stay.

Thank you so much! And yes, I am in a Facebook group and they keep mentioning this board and I can't believe what I have been missing out on! haha

They're still the same price even if you don't use it.
aaarcher86 - wondering if you know a typical price for soda if you buy it by the cup at the resort? I'm just wondering how many sodas would equal the price of the mug? Does the question make sense?

You "buy" the mug with the dining plan. One is included in the plan, but you still have to go pick one out and have it activated at the register and scan your band to "pay" for it.

I was just looking at the menu for the POR food court (heading there tomorrow....currently in Chattanooga staying overnight, halfway point for driving down....). Anyway I believe they were $3, so if you bought one a day for five days, you'd be almost there.

$3 as far I know and a paper cup is good for three refills in an hour if I remember correctly. So you need the equivalent of six visits for the mug to be cheaper at $16.49. I would guess therefore anything under a five night stay and just paying per drink is cheaper, unless you are spending a whole day at the resort.

DDP includes a mug for each person on the plan. No additional cost beyond plan costs. You will then "purchase" the mugs with the DDP entitlements loaded to your MagicBands after check-in.

Edited to add: Sorry for the repetitive information! I didn't see those replies until I posted!

For me I am less a "Soda" drinker and more of a "Coffee" drinker. The mug works much the same way. It doesn't take long to realize, however, that the refills can pay for themselves. We stayed at Fort Wilderness. Even if we weren't doing a day at the "Resort" (or Fort) we would still get a fill up in the AM (Coffee for me soda for kids) and again in the evening (Coffee for me, cocoa for kids) and then there is the "Day at the fort" where it could be several hours at the pool depending on the weather. Either way it can repay for itself, depending on your habits, pretty quickly, plus you get a nice souvenir cup (Because I know you don't have enough souvenir cups/mugs/bottles at home, right? :) )

We will be at Disney Aug 11th. I am getting my kids the refillable mug but DH and I are just going to bring our old ones and use it for water. Am I going to have any problems getting water with the old mugs? Does the water come out of the soda dispenser? If I remember correctly it is filtered water.

Water is free, it does not need a chipped mug.

Thank you jon18uk and peg110 - looks like I will continue to get the mug - I do think it would pay for itself for our stay, plus I do like and use the mugs when we get home - just makes me smile and think happy Disney memories when I use them. :-) ::MickeyMo::MinnieMo

Me too, the only problem is that they end up in the Kitchen cabinet. I can probably make a whole "Dinette" set out of the souvenir mugs, cups, bottles, plates, etc... that I have from various trips/parks and what not.

We just got back from Dollywood. They have cup you can refill (I think it's about 32 ounces) for 99 cents all season long. For our group of 5 we ended up buying 3 of them. DW and I shared DD17 and her BF shared and DD10 had her own. Great, right? Well another day we went and we weren't going to stay that long but things changed and DW ended up buying 3 more, so now we have 6. Fortunately we are going back in November and can re-use them (unless of course we forget to take them in with us again). I can't tell you though, how many souvenir cups (and stuff) I have thrown away (In the recycle bin though) because they are not being used or (and this is probably more important) they are a PAIN to clean. Think curvy straws or obnoxious character tops.

While on our "Dollywood" Trip we ended up in Nashville too and had dinner one night at the Rainforest Cafe. The kids wanted the "Frozen" type drinks and asked if they could. I said sure, but NO Souvenir cup.

This thing is a pain to keep clean, and is large in the cabinet. Already had 2 at home. (one magically disappeared. The other one is not far behind). If they want them, then they are going to keep them in their rooms CLEAN.

At least the Disney Mugs are more versatile and normal size (like a typical travel mug)

Thank you halssister - I appreciate your time and answering my question - have Fun on your trip!!

lol hate to admit this, but my family and/or I have been at Disney 13x's+ and have never utilized the mug with our dining plan that we always got lol...

Couldn't find it in a search ...

Where are the drink station(s) at the Boardwalk / Boardwalk Villas?

DH and I usually share one (at one meal, one of us will get a drink and then the other will get the refill on the way out--we don't keep going back to refill for every person at one meal). We also carry water bottles, and try to drink mostly water.

If we're there for a week, we'll sometimes get a second/third one for the kids.

We don't drink soda but I always buy a mug strictly for my morning coffee. A few times during the course of our trip one of my daughters will use it for hot cocoa.

The 3 minute refill is kind of annoying as I like to take a drink, then refill to take back to the room. Now I will have to wait around.
If you are on vacation, what is the hurry? Look around, do some people watching, enjoy the moment.
