Refill Mugs - Are 2008 still good??

Then by all means please post all the viable knowledge you have of it.

Oh, and BTW, viable knowledge does not include something you read on the interweb or conjecture. If you have direct knowledge that Disney management is concerned about his issue I would love to hear it.

I do know a WDW manager. He will remain unnamed by me because I wish to respect his privacy.

Refillable Mug Policy Tightening?

Disney is experimenting with a new computerized barcode system to be used in tandem with it's refillable mug program offered at their resorts. The program allows guests to buy a mug for each person in their party which then can be used for unlimited drink refills during their stay. The policy change could come as a result of Guests taking the mugs on repeat visits to Disney World to fill up on what becomes basically a lifetime of free drinks for one purchase.

----------------------------

I'll bet if you returned with that Fastpass on your next visit they wouldn't honor it though would they? Same goes for the mug.

Very good point!
I was told they are changng the fast passes and adding a scan code so the CM's can process them faster. ( Plus that is another way to "out" the bogus ones that are sold on ebay).

And for those who have NOT seen the refill mug sign with the posted rules here is a photo.

See, never noticed it, as my mind was conjuring up a blue sign with white writing. Is the sign the same everywhere? Have only bought ours at the Poly.

I have to say that I am suprised this thread is still going strong, and hasn't been locked up yet. Everyone give yourselves a pat on the back!:cutie: This must be a mug post record!!!

I have to agree, that sign is not vague at all, or easy to misunderstand. UNTIL THE END OF YOUR STAY, IN WHICH THE MUG WAS PURCHASED. Nothing vague there at all.

Mug-hopping, mug-hopping, someone spill about mug-hopping! To add to that, what about split stays? :upsidedow

I've done split-stays, and yeah, you are supposed to buy new mugs when you switch resorts. Although the last time I did that and had a mug was when all the mugs were resort specific. So now that I am thinking about it, I'm not sure. It is all one stay, right? So that would seem to mean you can use the same one at both resorts.

The mug I bought last year, which is the same mug they sold at all the resorts, says this:"Free Refills at our Resort Beverage Islands until the end of the stay in which the mug was purchased." I take that to mean all the beverage islands throughout all the Resorts until you go home. I think that is a nice change from when you had to buy seperate mugs for split stays because they were resort specific.

Until they enforce the rule, there is no reason why anyone would stop.
Agreed, we also have posted speed limits....but we all know that a vast majority of drivers speed at least a little.
I am personally looking forward to using my mug from2004 and happily say "hi" to the CM standing there that wont give a hoot.
I may even offer a drink.

5 days and 311 posts. Not a single mod warning. This has to be a record for a mug thread.

I think I've figured it out.

The mods must be experimenting. They must be hoping that we'll exhaust the topic once and for all. :rotfl2:

By the way, I'm in the binary camp. Honesty is like pregnancy, you are or you aren't.

Now before some of you take offense: I believe that most, if not nearly all, of us will choose to follow the rules. The real disagreement here is about defining the rules. If it's well known that you can use a fastpass after the return window, is that the real rule? If the local highway patrol doesn't write tickets under 73, does that mean 68-69 is ok? At TL or BB, is it ok to share a mug? Can you transfer your drink to another cup? Does it matter what a CM told you?

Hopefully, we can all see that reasonable and ethical people can disagree.

I I dont think as many people really care about the fastpasses, because they are free for everyone. I think the mug issue hits a nerve for some because the people who are doing it right and buy a new mug for every stay are in a sense being "punished" because it is not enforced for everyone. People are getting something for free that other people had to pay for. That is just my thought as to why some people do get upset about it..I am not really sure lol I may be way off base.

You mean, like government stimulus and bailout programs. :rotfl2: Just kidding, I couldn't resist. Back to the mugs. popcorn::

I really want to mug hop but I won't unless I know it's ok. I have always understood that you couldn't.

but I don't see the rationale for it, except that WDW makes a little extra money from me if I go to a CS at another resort and I have to buy a drink. They're shooting themselves in the foot there, really, since once I'm in my car I can go anywhere, and I'm more likely to go off-site without an incentive to eat in the world.

Speaking of mugs...the lid to one of ours from POR in 2006 fell from the top rack of the dishwasher yesterday (one of the kids put it in there loose, up by the glasses and cups) and landed on the drying heater coil. Thankfully I was right there in the kitchen when it started burning, and got it out quickly. It produced a good deal of smoke and burned a line right through the lid. Quite a mess... I can tell you this much: we won't be re-using that mug!! ;)

Lesson: Don't put those lids in the dishwasher!! :scared1: :scared1:

Ah, so 6 years ago they tried a system that "might" have been as a result of guests reusing old mugs, but nothing there states that for fact. Since nothing has been done over the 6 years, what does that tell you?

And, your manager friend would like everyone to know that Disney is concerned about this, but they are also not doing anything to stop it, right?

I'm not trying to be obtuse with you, I'm simply pointing out that unless Disney does something to curve the "wrong-doing", there is no need for anyone to be upset about it.

If Disney felt it was too difficult to police, or a big money loser, they would simply stop selling the mugs. Since they haven't done anything to stop it, it would seem they are content to let guests do as they please. I'm happy with that. I will continue to buy my mugs regardless. If I see someone using an old mug, so be it. It's not my place to say something to them or even be concerned about it.

I was just about to say that there was no sign like that at ASMusic, but then I looked at your sig. Was that at ASMusic? I'm pretty sure when I was there last year it was a small white sign with basic lettering on it -- so small that for the first couple days, I didn't buy a mug since I thought they were just souvenir mugs.

And I didn't see a sign like that last week.

The mug I bought last year, which is the same mug they sold at all the resorts, says this:"Free Refills at our Resort Beverage Islands until the end of the stay in which the mug was purchased." I take that to mean all the beverage islands throughout all the Resorts until you go home. I think that is a nice change from when you had to buy seperate mugs for split stays because they were resort specific.

for those still wondering if you can mug hop...Let me just add this to the above. I have a mug from Wilderness Lodge from a few years back when the mugs were different at each resort and it says this:"Free refills until the end of your stay.Refills only at location purchased." So It seems when they switched to the same mugs at all the resorts, they allow mug hopping. Since all the mugs are the same, they would have no idea where you purchased it. So I say go ahead and Mug Hop!

And I didn't see a sign like that last week.
Until they enforce the rule, there is no reason why anyone would stop.

And even if there are signs.....it still won't convince everyone. Some guests were told very different things when they invested in mugs years ago.

Years and years ago.....I know I had an experience back in 1998 at the then Dixie Landings resort. When they sold a guest a refillable mug, they told them they were good for life at that resort. I specifically recall purchasing 6 mugs at POR in 12/98, and being told it was "such a good deal" because they were "good for all future visits" to that resort. I know many people will doubt or dispute this....but I very clearly recall my mil turning to me and saying, "wow...what a good deal". "We'll have to come back here next year" as she purchased the 6 mugs for us. And I know others have reported being told this. So would it be fraud if disney chastised us for using our "lifetime" mugs from 1998 ? I have never tried, and I'm really not that interested.

So.....I know others have been told this in the past, and will stick by that. So some folks you will never convince them that their mugs from 1998 and prior are still not good. Maybe this is why disney doesn't enforce these signs ? Who knows..........I'm not saying I am against or condone the practice of reusing mugs. I really don't care that much about it. Just stating some facts of a policy back in the 90's. :hippie:

Lesson: Don't put those lids in the dishwasher!!

I put ours in the silverware basket on the bottom----and one section has a cover so they don't pop out. But I could see this being an issue.
