Reese's Buttercup Outrage

I was also about to post about the day I realized I bought Dreyer's ice cream (Edy's) and it seemed just less than a quart. I couldn't believe it.

But yes, Blue Bell still advertises themselves against this - they still say they sell right at 1/2 gallon. I've been buying it more often for this reason :) (Plus, if you know Blue Bell, you know it's the best! ;) )

(Okay, that has nothing to do with Reece's, but I have noticed those getting smaller too.....such a shame!)

One thing I did notice was this summer Dryer's ice cream ( I think it is Eddy's back east- at least the carton lookis the same) got smaller. Way smaller. I forget the exact weight though. It is our favorite brand and their light (slow churned) is the best tasting we have found, but we do not buy it unless it is on sale. The smaller size made it ridiculously expensive. :sad2:

I noticed this December last year. That is the only time I buy Eddy's. I get their limited edition Peppermint to have with hot fudge on top( OMGosh, do I love this dessert  and only get to have it in December) Anyway, I think they were about half the normal size :scared1: and I don't think the price was any different.

I remember when a pound of coffee was a pound, not 11.5 ounces.

If your ice cream is less than a quart, then the company has REALLY downsized! Most half gallons of ice cream are now 1.75 or 1.5 quarts instead of 2 quarts - unless you buy the giant 5-quart pails, as I sometimes do! :lmao:

Well, I had to go look and all my Reese's Cups are .75 or .6.

I love the Reese's Cups and I was able to look at them without eating one.

^ Oh my goodness, that sounds tasty.

Last night we had Ben & Jerry's limited edition Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream with hot caramel topping... We made do... ;)

That sounds amazing! I love peppermint and chocolate. Actually I saw that one there at the store just the other day and almost got it. Now I know it has to have hot fudge! :thumbsup2

The odd thing is- I know it was only this summer that our's (Dryer's) on the west coast switched to the smaller than 1/2 gallon size. And I remember even seeing two sizes of the same flavor on the same shelf for the same price. The smaller ones must have been the newer ones but guess which ones I bought? ;)

PS- my Recesses are .6 and came in a big bag of other chocolate candy bars from Costco.

PPS- My DH got pumpkin pie flavor of Dryers and it tasted exactly like pumpkin pie. It just needed some Cool Whip! I mainly stuck to my Cookies and Cream though.

i too noticed the size difference, what happens is the holloween bags have the smaller size, as the consumer wnats more bars per bag/ the cups you buy 3 per pack are regular size, and then as the thread above shows it goes crazy from there, as mush as i love them, the giant cup was a bit to much for me, and i understand a store in niagra falls sells a 1 pounder cup ???

Isn't the Peppermint with hot fudge on it the BEST?! Love it! Sometimes I roll a ball of the peppermint ice cream in coconut, then put the hot fudge on top. Soooooooooooooooooooooo good. :cloud9:

Wow
Second, that has to be the most ridiculous thing I have heard!!! LOL! If they were really listening to customer demand they would probably have to make the cups about the size of dinner plates...at least that is what I would have suggested.

Too true! I noticed that ours were smaller as well. If it was customer demand it's a wonder there wasn't something on the bag declaring "Smaller...just as you wanted it!" Somehow I'm not sure that would have gone over well?! Personally enjoy mine almost frozen...supposed to be a weight watchers trick, freezing the little bars however they're even more appealing that way! :cloud9:

Hehe, I am not surprised I misspoke. Volume measurements = not my friend! :lmao:

Oh my I can not wait until I get to WDW :yay::yay::yay:! Here in Sweden where I live they have not discovered the heaven that chocolate and peanut butter make and look at me oddly when I try to tell them :confused3. You guys are lucky (and you know it :goodvibes)!

Where is the drooling smiley?!?!?! :cloud9:

Love Reese's but didn't notice those going down in size. I have noticed other Halloween favorites going down in size though. The Snickers fun size isn't so fun anymore. Those definately have decreased in size.

:rotfl:
I love Reeses, but unfortunately they don't sell them here in Italy, so I really couldn't say if they are smaller or not :sad1:

Wait, someone in Italy jealous of something food related that we have? Man, if we can work out a trade there are so many things I would gladly trade Reeses cups for.:)

I've noticed it too but it's also been happening with a lot of other products.
I'm sure costs are a factor - cost of cocoa beans due to a shortage, product transportation costs, etc. I won't give up candy purchases but I will look for items at Costco or on sale. This morning I went grocery shopping and almost had heart failure when I saw the cost of olive oil, meat & several other items. Guess I'll have to start making more bulk purchases because the cost of smaller packages is really outrageous.

A little off topic, Coupon Mom.com and (if you have one, Publix) always has a BOGO and if you wait for a coupon you can get it close to free, we have about 3 bottles because they were really cheap deals. DW looked in the pantry when she was making a list and said "I think we have enough olive oil for a while"

And the cost of transport excuse is a joke. The fuel prices have gone way down since they gouged the prices and blamed it on transport costs. But the increase never went down with the fuel prices. I guess they are using customer demand as an excuse now.

Sorry for hijacking the thread. I do love PBCs and have noticed every thing getting smaller. Bummer:sad2:

There has been a lot of talk lately about Disney (and SeaWorld and Universal) raising prices and offering less.

Well I can tell you another example of a business doing the same thing. While handing out Halloween candy yesterday I was horrified to discover that Reese's has reduced the size of their buttercup from .6 oz to .55oz. I loved Reese's buttercups but it had been a while since I had some and I when I was looking at them I thought that the size of the cup seemed smaller.

Any other Reese's lovers out there who noticed this, or did this happen a while ago!

I noticed this about 6 weeks ago. It aggravated me,
Now you go and bring it up and remind me
all over again:mad:

So, in our bag of Halloween treats we had the .75 oz size and the .6 oz size. I did a direct comparison. And I have to say that the .6 oz is not very good! It was really chintzy with the Peanut butter and the layer of chocolate was much thinner as well. Keep our bigger Peanut Butter cups please!!

Well I just looked at the boys halloween loot.
They got the smaller ones, even though it does not say on the individual packages. This sucks!
I really am tired of getting ripped off.
I would rather pay a little more and have the size and product stay the same.
After all that's what made them in the first place.
