Just wondering if anyone else was as impressed as I was with the young man who sang the National Anthem at their home opener on Friday. For those of you who didn't see the game or are not from this area, his name is John Castillo, a student at Perkins School for the Blind who is only 14 years old. I had tears in my eyes. What a magnificent voice. He reminded me of the way Josh Groban sings and with a bit of training he could be just as good.

Hopefully this will not be the last time we're treated to his wonderful voice!

Hi~ I didn't see the game, but my friend works at Perkins...I'll have to ask her about John Castillo! What a wonderful opportunity for him~ must have been so thrilling for him!! Thanks for sharing!:)

I saw the game, and I have to agree, he had such a wonderful voice!!!

(Like I would ever miss a Red Sox game...let alone the home opener!!!)

Oh my gosh, yes! I only caught a little of the beginning of the game, but I did see that part of the ceremony too. It was funny. My first thought was a 14 yo boy? Not your typical singing voice. But then he started and I was stunned at how great he did.
Congratulations to him!!!

I am usually very "protective" of how the Star-Spangled Banner is sung (it's an honor, not a career move), and although he took a couple of musical liberties I found it to be fantastic. This young man has a great voice, and I trust that if music is something he wishes to pursue as a career it won't be long before everyone knows his name.

He was fantastic ............. and I noticed that the players were listening intently while he sang. I think they were most impressed by this extremely talented young man.
