Recurrent Ear wax build up.. yes a wonderful Monday morning subject :)

What about sweet oil?
I have heard about putting a drop a day in there to loosen wax and help with itching
I would check with your doctor first
:)

So far we have not found a magic number of how often to go get them cleaned.

Wow on your story!

As far as a "magic number" it is more of a progression. At first you will need to see the doctor frequently because you have irritation/buildup and it is a back and forth thing.

Eventually your ear begins to heal a bit so irritation is slower.

I had to go every 3 months when my allergies are bad or if you are getting sick with colds/flu because that can wreak havoc on your ears.

Ah, I subject I am well versed in.:thumbsup2

1. Switch ENT's. There are better ones out there to manage ear wax. And 3000 bucks? Come on.

2. Your dd will need to go and get her ears reg. cleaned out by an ENT. Reg. cleanings are simple and no need to be put under. Unless your dd is phobic about getting her ears cleaned. Then you got a problem there.

3. Using debrox, hydrogen peroxide, etc....irritates the ear and makes it produce MORE wax.

4. My issue was allergies in which I have excema in my ear. Hence not being able to use chemicals in my ear. It tears it up and makes the problem worse. I use excema cream in my ear to try and keep that at bay.

Staying on top of getting them reg. cleaned is the key. Once you have a buildup you get irritation and it is a vicious cycle.
Okay, except for the allergies you have my father down to a T. He sees an ENT regularly and if he forgets my DM reminds him. She usually reminds him when she's having to repeat herself regularly. The wax gets so thick that it blocks his hearing. When they pull it out it comes out in a hard block. It seems to be genetic in our family as my older Dsis gets similar problems only not as bad as my dad.

My 15 y/o son just had to go into the pediatrian last week to have a ball of wax removed. He is quite the wax producer. When he was about 6, we had to take him to an ENT who did some big water-flush of his ears. Man, the stuff that came out.

Anyway, this time, the pediatrician put in the stool softener (I didn't see the name of it) and then got it out.

My 3 year old has the same problem. We go into the drs office and they irrigate it out with hydrogen peroxide and a warm water solution. They gave me the seringe thing that they use so that I can now do it at home. We do it once a week to keep the wax down.

For those saying he isn't treating her right.. HOW? this will be her 3rd time seeing him. First time we went there he said look yes she has a massive amount of wax in her ears.. I can do it here in the office but its going to hurt her.. I'd feel more comfortable not torturing her and putting her under for it.. You damn right it was worth a few hundred dollars not to have her screaming in pain.. she's been thru enough... 2nd time was the surgery and now we go back for our follow up a month later.. I never said he was going to put her under again.. I need to know how to stop it from getting so bad that he doesn't have to put her under again. the debrox he suggested isn't working.. I'm sure he'll have other ideas (I hope!) but wanted to see if ya'll had any for me in the mean time to try and if it does get to the point of her having surgery again.. we'll go that route again.

Maybe you could talk to your doc about routinely flushing the ears at home, just using a bulb syringe. Ear tubes will not help with wax, they just allow fluid to drain from behind the ear drum.

That's what we do for DD. We do it every 6 months or so....That girl has some awful earwax!:scared1:

Using Debrox to combat it. It is irritating to the ear canal. It is hard for me to imagine an ENT telling you to use Debrox right after a surgery. You have to baby those ears.

I have explained in my posts how to combat it. I don't understand the hostility you have?:confused3

A lot of here have explained our situations with our ears. It is basically staying on top it with your ENT.
