Recommendations for dinner restaurants in Vancouver

We loved the Elephant and Castle Pub. It was a few blocks from Canada Place. The food was terrific.

Are you looking for family friendly? Fancy grown up restaurants? Views? Close to any particular hotel?

What kind of food? Ages of people? Dietary restrictions? Where are you staying? Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner?

Vancouver is a major city (2+ million people) and the port is in the core of downtown, meaning TONS of places very close, so we need to qualify your query a bit more.

but something that would be unique to the area?
Is there a restaurant where you cook on a hot stone?

No dietary restrictions. 2 kids 12 and 20 years old. Looking for something fun and different with a family

Well, ok, I'll throw some stuff out here.

There is a stone grill restaurant, but honestly it is expensive and there is better stuff out there. stonegrillvancouverc.ipage.com/

What I do highly recommend is going to a Korean BBQ restaurant, which you cook the meat at the table, normally on a hot grill aparatus. Very fun, very cool. To do this properly you go to Richmond (Easily accessible via the Canada Line). I'll ask one of my buddies where the best one is at there (there are a few).

Not dinner so much as dessert is La Casa Gelato. 5 min drive outside the downtown core. Well worth it, is very cool, but not transit friendly.

Breakfast? Well how about some donuts, Catem's Donuterie http://cartems.com/ is downtown and mmmm...sooo good. Gourmet donuts.

There is also Shabusen downtown http://www.shabusenyakiniku.com/ which does Japanese style BBQ and sushi.

Sushi is plentiful, excellent quality, and very reasonably priced (We have one of the highest sushi-restaurant to population numbers in the world, higher than Tokyo).

It's counter service, but we love Smoke's Poutinerie. It's not unique to Vancouver, but it is to Canada.

A Vancouver Classic is The Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown. A 5 min walk from canada Place. It's got a trolley car in the middle of it and is a great inexpensive family restaurant .

This might be too high-end, but on my one previous trip to Vancouver, I had a really, really, really good meal at Le Crocodile.

We really enjoyed our meal at Mahony & Sons near Canada Place and also at the Old Spaghetti Factory.

We like Red Robin. Yes it's a chain, but the menu is different than the one in the US (better IMO). Even the things that seem the same are slightly different, with better cheese and that sort of thing.

Street food: japa dog. Several locations.

Dessert (or meals): Cafe Crepe. One of MANY locations.

Coffee? We like Waves.

If you consider street eats. Try Burger$2.85 at the corner of Granville and Pender. Excellent japanese style burgers for the aforementioned price (plus tax, taking it to $3 even) or $3.50 for cheeseburgers.

It is a burger with a Terryaki glaze on it (not too sweet) with large chucks of fresh iceburg lettuce and slices of fresh tomatos on a toasted bun. Soooo good.
