Taking the kids & grandkids to WDW probably next year. It will be me, DH (if he promises not to be a crab the whole trip!), DS, DDil, 3 DGS's 7, 6 and 4. My plan was Harbour Lake in a 2 BR villa. We get the master, they get the 2nd BR & the kids get spread between the extra bed & the pull out.

Well, DH wants us to have a separate room as he can only take the exuberance of the DGS's for so long (did I mention he gets crabby?). So maybe a studio and a 1 br villa or 2 - 1 br villas. This will, of course, add several hundred dollars to the trip and I haven't decided whether its worth the extra $ to have him come!!!!:rotfl2: But, assuming it will be, any better recommendations? I think having a kitchen & laundry facilities are a must but we probably won't need to have 2 sets. I want a cool pool area as I expect that will be the boys' favorite part of the trip!

It might just be me, but 7 people in a 2 bedroom condo for a week seems pretty cramped and a guaranteed recipe for a crabby DH.

Since time is on your side, you might consider checking out Homeaway or VRBO for a rental property that you can spread out in and enjoy each other's company and still have your own space too. There are many to choose from and some with really nice amenities. Private pool, golf, tennis, etc. Maybe you'll find something that interests DH so that he is not just "along for the ride."

Cypress pointe has 3 bedroom lock out. Location is great and gets good reviews. I think you can rent thru vacation strategy.

Bonnet Creek has 3 and 4 bedroom condos and renter thru an owner the are really good priced.

We got a three bedroom at bonnet creek for the same price as a 2 bedroom... 120/night.

Mystic Dunes also has a three bedroom lockout that sleeps 12. The 2 br part has a large master suite with a king size bed, 2nd bedroom with two beds, full kitchen, and two bathrooms. The other part has a bathroom, kitchenette, bed and seating area. Perfect for quiet time.

Get own room. Sounds like this will make trip less crabby. :). This sounds like my father. Everyone will have a better time if he has his own space. IMO. Good luck.

what's a lockout?

A lock-out is a typical timeshare villa configuration where a three-bedroom unit or a two-bedroom unit can be turned into two separate villas with access locked-out between the two. Generally, these get turned into a two-bedroom villa and a studio (for the three-bedroom configuration) or a one-bedroom villa and a studio (for the two-bedroom configuration). Works out pretty nicely for the villa owner who can exchange both sides separately, exchange the whole thing together, use one side and exchange the other or use both together.

We own at Cypress Pointe and it sounds like it would work for you. The lockout even has it's own small balcony.

You can find CPR rentals on TUG and Redweek.com as well.

I'm with your husband - that would be too much togetherness for me!

We're actually going to Hawaii with my father in law and his wife this summer (on our way back after Korea), staying at the Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club (we own there). I booked us a 2 bedroom villa for the 4 of us, and a studio for the in-laws. We need our space, and I'd rather not use the living room for sleeping.

I'd suggest the same - get them a 2 bedroom and get your own studio. Harbour Lake is great for young kids!

There are 7 of us, but we are just my DH and our kids, and we go ahead and get the 3BR condo at Bonnet Creek. One master room for us, with a nice bathroom, one side of the condo. The other side has 2 bedrooms, one for girls, one for boys, and they share a bathroom that also has a little space outside in the hall to get ready if someone else is in the shower. Do you think that would work, or does he want an entire seprate unit? My Dad (yes, I love him) gets overwhelmed by the grandkids after a little bit, and he would want an entire seprate condo if my parents went with us, and I think it would be worth the $$ for him to get it. Family together ness is wonderful, but so is having your own space :)

the lockout would be far enough away for DH. I envision the DGS's banging on the door a lot!! I was looking at the offsite villas for the cost savings but it seems to me that, if we have to get 2 entirely separate spaces, I may as well just book 2 rooms at a moderate. DS & his family in one and DH, DGS #2(different mom!!) and I in the other. I am undecided about having a kitchen. Yes, we could cook some meals there but..... then again if we go during Free DDP... The pool at CSR is really nice and I think the kids would like it and Pepper Market is a great CS location. Hey, I only have maybe 1 1/2 or 2 years to obsess over this!!

Thanks for all your advice.
