Recommend a GOOD Red Wine!

I have been wanting to try Two Buck Chuck, but no trader joes, near us. Next time I am near one, I will be sure to buy this!

There isn't a Trader Joes very close to us either but we make a trip across town every couple months to buy a case. They have really yummy food too.

Some of my favorite good reds.

Jordan Cabernet
Ferrari-Carano Pinot Noir
Ruffino Chianti Classico
Cakebread - any red

I don't like a lot of reds but I love these:

robert mondavi private selection pinot noir
smoking loon pinot noir

Yellow Tail Shiraz is one of my faves and is about $7 a bottle.

Another Two Buck Chuck fan here. I LOVE the Cabernet Sav. The closes Trader Joes is 5 hours away, but I have friends that bring me several bottles at a time (and we stop in when we are in the area).

I love Ravenswood reds, especially the zinfandel. LOVE it! They usually run about $10 - 15 per bottle in my local store.

I agree with JessicaR - Any red from Cakebread is good!

And...If you want to go all out and spend a few extra bucks...

Try a cab from Far Niente. VERY good.

I agree with the pp that said they liked Menage a Trois red. I also really like Mirassou pinot noir (they sell it at Sams for somewhere around $6-8 and its $12 at the grocery store).

I also like chianti, but can't really recommend a brand for that. Dh and I like more fruity (and less oak monstery) wines.

Also at Trader Joes, when you can find it, Chariot Gypsy Red. It's around $6 a bottle and sells out pretty fast because it is YUMMY.

I went to a couple of Washington State tastings at WDW last year. One of them, Milbrandt Merlot, can be found at Costco for about $10. I buy some of that every time I stop in too.

Almost any reds by Coppola are good too. Their Pinot Noir is especially good.

Mmmm, Mondavi Pinot Noir is yummy, too. I get it at my local RiteAid for about 10 bucks a bottle.

We have a TJ's about an hour away, but in PA, you can't buy wine in a grocery store, only in a Wine and Spirits shop. UGH....PA is so behind the times!

I like pinot noirs.

Red truck is pretty good. Barefoot is also good. There's one with a blue label with a rooster on it..Rex Something it's called. That one's good too. I also pick my wines based on how I like the label. ;)

Barefoot also makes a good red Zinfandel. I was at a tasting and had it.

Smoking Loon makes a good wine too...I have tried and liked their cabernet.

Menage a Trois is good as well...3 different kinds of grapes...hence the name....

I mostly do $10-ish per bottle.

Enjoyed all of these!! Just had the "rooster" wine last week....it's Rex-Goliath.
The only one on your list I haven't tried yet is Menage a Trois. Gotta try that one next!

Sorry for the hijack, but I'd be interested in hearing other wine recs, not just reds! I love white/sparkling/blush for summer pool time! :thumbsup2

Yes, I find that I like sweet white wines.

I think I am one of those people with the taste buds who can really taste the tannin's in Reds (bitter), and don't seem to like red wines.

I loved the Moscato (Trentino- imported from Italy) served at Palo's on DCL.

Barefoot makes another good lower cost Moscato.

We also buy couple of sweet white/blush wines from a nearby winery.

One is red, because it is raspberry, but I am betting it is actually white wine that this is made from.

I've wondered about the Barefoot Moscato. I will check that one out. I have a problem with wine. I buy it like some people buy shoes or bags, so I have a wine stash. The thing is, I don't buy good wine for a wine collection, so I guess I collect the cheap stuff!!!

Really in PA? I thought that was a Southern thing.
In GA you can buy it in grocery stores just not on Sundays. Of course you can go to a restuarant on Sunday and order a glass of wine you just can't buy a bottle at your local Trader Joes :confused3
