Reclaiming confiscated items?

Just wondering if my DISboard friends can help me out.

On our 1/24/04 cruise, my DH had packed a leatherman - kind of an all-in-one tool. Disney confiscated it out of our luggage and slipped us a note under the doors saying it would be returned to us on the last day of our cruise. It never was. I never went to guest services to see if it was there - I thought it would be returned at the terminal.

Anyway, I've e-mailed and called Disney twice (each) about getting it back and have gotten nowhere. The last CM I talked to said confiscated items are never returned.

This Leatherman is somewhat expensive and setimental to DH. Any ideas for getting it back? (Besides buying him a new one)?

I told DH in the first place he shouldn't pack it (it has two knife-like blades), but he is so upset about the whole thing that he wants to cancel our next cruise.

Did you save the note saying it would be returned to you on the last day of the cruise? If you did, I would think that would help you refute what the CM is saying now.... about how they never return them. Because if that was the case- you wouldn't have gotten a note saying that!
If you still have the note- maybe scan it & send with your next email (or copy it and mail it)- the next time you contact them about this. That way they can't say they NEVER return confiscated items.

Whenever we have cruised I have seen a table at the terminal that was for "confiscated" items that were to be returned to their owners.
Maybe since you did not notice that table and therefore did not pick up your items they were turned over to the lost and found department?
Maybe you could try checking with them and see if they have your item there.

By the way, where do I find the e-mail address for the lost and found or other types of inquiries? My daughter came home from our cruise in January without a hooded sweatshirt (her favourite of course). We checked with lost and found at the terminal before we left and left a description but haven't heard anything back yet. Maybe I could contact them and ask about it.

I hope you get the Leatherman back.

But this shows the importance of reading the docs. Within the the "ticket book," there's a page that describes DCL's "zero weapons policy," which prohibits firearms (including ammunition), knives (including dive knives), swords, daggers, or any other type of weapon.

Mom had a small paring knife in the room to cut up her apples at night. It was taken by the hostess and returned to us when we stopped at the desk after we collected our luggage and were leaving the terminal building. I believe the desk was "Lost and Found".

On our first cruise my FIL had packed a sword he bought at Epcot (we were doing the Land and Sea) which was a gift for BIL. They didn't get their luggage when we got ours. When he called they said he had to come down to customs. They had him open the bag and they gave him a receipt for the sword. When we got back after picking up our luggage in the terminal he went to customs with the receipt and they gave it back to him. Not sure if they are still doing that as this was back in 1999. Since then we have teased him not to pack any swords!

Just got back Thursday and one of the guys traveling with us had the same thing happen. Shortly after receiving his luggage there was a note slipped under the door telling him that they had taken the knife out of his luggage and he could pick it up after disembarking the ship. After picking up his luggage, he took his receipt over to the Lost and Found counter and picked up his knife.

We must have totally missed the Lost and Found counter. At least I can say its our fault and we should have been more diligent about getting it back, so DH should stop being upset.

I do have the receipt, so I'll try using that.

Actually things are confiscated through Mickate security. As far as pick-up of these item, there is a counter located to the right at the end of the hallway after you go through Customs. Lost and Found is located inside the luggage hall and has nothing to do with confiscated items. Hope this helps

Let me check with some of the Security people on Thursday and I'll post what I find out

All is right in my Disney world again. I called that number and the CM said she receives all the confiscated items not picked up. She looked, found the Leatherman and is sending it off to me.

She also agreed that the positioning and sign for the confiscated items table isn't eye-catching enough - a lot of people miss it.

that Disney lost and found is incredible!!! DH lost his $250.00 Maui Jim sunglasses on Space Mountain, this was the first time we spent that kind of money on something as frivolous as sun glasses!!! We called lost and found that night and we were leaving the next day, they said to call us when we get home, they had the glasses and sent them back no charge!! Not even a scratch! Incredible!

With the new rules and fines (maybe just proposed right now) by the TSA, you had better not forget that anything they might consider a weapon is with you when going through airport security. Not only will they confiscate the item, you will be fined and the more upset you get the higher the fine goes.

The stats on confiscated items at airports is running about 15,000 per day (I think). Just think of how much of this stuff was going on airplanes prior to 9/11 each day undetected. And how many of these "weapons" were used in terrorist activities. We keep giving up our freedoms to be safe from knitting needles and tweezers.
